In my opinion the actual 2 Series is one of the most beautiful BMW's as they kept the grill dimensions, the Hofmeister kink, the DNA of the Corona Rings that look excellent in this conservative yet elegant headlights. A balanced design overall.

*In the F22, the middle design line goes through the handle flowing and connecting all the elements including the handle and front fender the boomerang.
The new one has the handle slapped in there, just to make sure you have one.

*In the old one the door is bulked and flows with the rear fender while in the new one it does not.

*The F22 bottom contains another elegant line that flows through and which gives an overall look that is connected with the line described by the middle bulge of the body forcing the light to give you a reflection line in any angle of the car. (see pic 2)
In the new car the black bottom looks like was glued later by some ricer guy.

* In the old one the bottom line is arched up and connected with the rear spoiler line showing continuity and an aerodynamic kinetic design that inspires movement and airflow.
In the new one the bottom line doesn't even flow with the rear bumper line.

*The F22 hood was much more balanced and perfectly integrated with the vehicle as a whole, while the new bonet looks longer and like it doesn't belong in there, or atleast id doesn’t scream “compact” or small and nimble...

* The vertical line in the front fender on the new one looks not only odd but out of place. Let's not mention the terrible placement right beside the arch of the fender where the two elements just won't work together! It looks like an accident dent or something. A vertical line thrown under an horizontal one and right beside a curved one? WTF is that?

* Actually, while I am looking at this car in this OFFICIAL pictures, I don't have the feeling that I am seeing a vehicle that was designed like that, but rather an odd repaired vehicle.

The taillights are just horrendous and the front triangles are not far either.

I am in the opinion that we can’t even falk about a design language but rather a mix of elements.

It looks quite generic otherwise with nothing that will awe the audience. They could do a much better job especially when they had already a beautiful predecessor.
At least they kept the kidneys to a decent size....
Just looking at the reflections of both cars you can already see the attention to detail between the two.

The interior looks better and the door panels are really nice.

Technically however, sounds really good on the paper and I like the specs.
Yes, I choose the bottom car 100% of the time.

I am glad that the G series is only 3 inches longer than the F series. We will see if the new styling grows on me. Currently not a fan. But I love that they actually gave it a heads up display. A nice safety improvement. It should have been available for the F series 2 BMWs.

Did I not say "as fast or faster"? You are being pretty obtuse here.

There is no chance that stock for stock a M340 or Supra is as fast or faster than a F8X M3/4 in any trim in any meaningful race or comparison - unless racing between traffic lights is somehow a meaningful indicator. These test figures are comparing a F8X on PSS to a G20 and A5 on PS4S, which itself gives a couple tenths to the newer rubber. Bottom line is that F8X has a higher power to weight ratio than both cars even in base trim and is not geared meaningfully differently that it would significantly impact acceleration. Even on old rubber, F8X still tests faster and puts down better lap times.

And don’t be confused about what I’m saying - m340 and Supra are great cars and B58 is a fantastic engine. But at the end of the day, physics dictates that they are not as fast especially if they’re all on the same tire compound. And should the new M240i actually weigh in at 3800 lbs, well it won’t be as fast either…

Definitely like what he did with the tails.

I'm not sure we can technically elongate the rear taillights like he did, or it might mandate the units to be split in two to allow for the trunk shutline to pass through. Which BMW obviously didn't want to, choosing instead to stick to the short single piece style like its predecessors (the F22, the E82, the E36 Coupé... and ultimately the 1600/2002). This fits the ball of nerves/short bodybuilder character the model has had since the E82, even though the now longer hood counteracts that slightly (which by the way has become so rare today that there is no need for him to complain about that either!).

"Significantly lighter" means it's lighter vehicle than the G22?

Any idea what the weight is of the rwd 240i?

Subtract 150 lbs for the AWD.

Sure. Thank you for the more detailed picture. Now I can clearly see the square inside of the lateral cardbord boxy design. Pretty impressive for the kindergarden drawing group.
Take some hooks or spoons and made them taillights; anything as long as is weird and has no thematic. Just look how that taillight looks in your picture...
Lately I realized that you actualy don’t need to have taste, talent or even to know few basic things about design to work in BMW design team..

I was curious as to what you drove so I took a peek at your threads. You're a first generation X1 kinda guy and I see that you had a similar problem with the new gen X1 as well. Fact is that looks like a 20 year old car now. If they repeat those design cues BMW falls behind.

It may not appeal to you but this is the future. Clean, subtle lines are a thing of the past. Either keep up or get left behind!

BMW just killed one of the most beautiful cars they have designed, mostly on the back end, tail lights are just ugly, baddly shaped, too low against the trunk height, cheap-chinese-car-look, it seems like they run out of ideas, or just run out of taste.
If you want to buy one, you should go for a dark color in order to hide the back end as much as possible, white is a no go for sure IMO. Usually radical changes in design will grow on customers as time passes, I don't see how this one will make it, at least on me
