Directly from their Instagram questions on aerodynamics of the new cars. The rest of the video is worth the watch too Here's a screen grab |

If the headlights had two corona rings, and the taillights had red instead of white in the bottom part, that LED strip would look beautiful in the rear.
Without these, it's a really awkward-looking front and rear and does not look like a BMW. |

how tf is this heavier than the 3 series?????? 3800lbs is absolutely insane for your "smallest" car.

I don't think historically m-mirrors have ever played an "important" role. But I'm sure they're still aerodynamic to a degree. Still bummed he (Markus) didn't go into further detail |

BMW used to have sort of an exclusivity to it. Had an appeal that made people that didn't have one want one. Now this new generation and all the naming issues make it seem like it's some cheap Chinese knock-off that someone has been putting a BMW badge on. Now everything has an M to it and half the time you can't even distinguish what model car it is because the numbers are all over the place and really they're all starting to look the same. This thing looks like a video game designers version of a real car that they did not have the licensing to use in their video game. If anyone's ever played any of the Grand Theft Auto games you'd know what I'm talking about. Front end looks like they took their "new" design "language" straight out of the Audi playbook with the headlight style and just tweaked it a little. Now you won't know if it's a BMW pulling up behind you when you see the headlights because the halos are gone but rather maybe an Audi or some Japanese car with cheap aftermarket headlights fitted with a LED DRL strip. Rear end is strange too. Tail lights remind me of the pokeballs from Pokémon. Such a shame. It just leaves me scratching my head because this car had to go through multiple levels of approval before it was put in to production. I'm sure people weren't too keen on the F series either when they went into production but this stuff just seems way too extreme

I like it more than I thought I would. I think the M2 will be a massive machine and probably one of the last good ICE cars. The shape of the rear taillights remind me of the pre LCI E90 3 series cars a lot. Overall, I wish they would've found a way to integrate dual projectors on either side to maintain the classic headlight pattern but oh well.
Also, is that a power dome I see??? How did they take that away from the M3/M4 but then put in on a non M car lol.

People need to remember that this dash design in the G42 is only for the 2022 model year. After that the G42 and G87 will both be getting the new idrive 8 dash design. Then people will forget about the exterior design and there will be 10 pages of another thread with people complaining about the dash. The G87 test mule pic shows the new flat screen.

One of the best side profiles I've seen. I've had two M2's, and the car always looked like a Barbie cartoon car to me, too short and "cute". This new stretched length looks incredible.

I think it's looks great. I had a F22 m240 and I think this is a step in the right direction. I bet it's going to look even better in person. Never liked the back end of the F22 but it didn't matter to me because the car was all around spectacular. While I'm enjoying my m340, I miss the F22 big time.

Objectively speaking this is not a beautiful car.
The non-M Sport is a bit more cohesive, but BMW is pushing the M Sport (no dynamic handling pack without M Sport). It is painfully heavy, (heavier is cheaper). I am disappointed.

A designer usually will think up a pretty great looking car. It gets green lighted to next steps. Engineers get a hold of it and start work - "This line will need to be moved for sensors. This line will need to be moved downwards for safety. This panel will need to be extended out for aero" |

As soon as I saw that the word "coupe" was omitted from the bullet point about the 230i and M240i xDrive model but included in the second bullet about the upcoming 230i xDrive and M240i, I thought to myself "someone's going to get confused." LOL.
