Wait til you try the seat. So uncomfortable, worst in the sports seat since the thigh bolster digs on your thigh because the seat too narrow.

New to BMW iDrive & F48
Hi Guys,
I've just received my new X1(F48) LCI last week. I'm new to the BMW iDrive ecosystem so need some advice from fellow members here 1- I've seen a lot of videos where BMW owners can check their brake pad wear status on their screen. Is there a way to see this on my car? 2- Whenever I enter the car, driver's seat always sets and adjusts to the "2nd" memory, how do I make the 1st as default? 3- Ive tried various driving positions but never been able to see the small display at the centre bottom of the cluster (odo, fuel economy, etc). Is it just me? |

Haven't really looked much at the X1, but was at my dealer the other day checking out the 2019 X3 and noticed an X1 on the floor. Like the size, but noticed that it lacks some of the safety options that you can can on the X3. Doesn't look like they will all be there for the 2019 model either. If the X1 sticks to the BMW mid-cycle refresh schedule, I assume that the X1 will get one for the 2020 model year. Anyone hearing anything about what might be included in that? Far off yet, but sometimes things get reported.

1) on the idrive go into vehicle status. Service info on there. 2) it sounds like the profile for the key you are using is assigned to position 2. Again in idrive there's a profile settings screen. Assign a key to the user - so seat settings, mirrors, climate, media etc. 3) can be a little difficult. I can see it on both my BMWs by adjusting seat and steering wheel in conjunction. Try seat adjustment first, then adjust steering wheel. Tweak from there.

Where the X1 does fall short, is in the fact BMW use cheaper versions of a number of components/systems and disguise the fact by using similar terminology. Examples include Xdrive, on the X1 which is essentially a front wheel drive car, the system uses part-time rear wheel drive, it is not as good as systems in the other x models which are essentially rear wheel drive with on demand front wheel drive. Other example include driving assist versus driver assist. On most BMW models the frontal collision systems use radar and/or two KAFAS cameras whereas the X1 only has the single camera. The X1 was the only model to fail a recent safety test on pedestrian avoidance carried out in the USA (bottom of class compared to 11 other brands). The X1 has no proper lane change warning and it’s adaptive LED lighting (high beam assist) is a joke compared to more expensive models which use genuine beam/lens focusing and pattern change, In the x1, only the high beams move to follow steering and the high beam assist simply dips the headlights when detecting on-coming traffic and is not always reliable. Agreed, many of these are driver aids rather than essential safety features but they are often “cheaper and poorer solutions ” than those found on many less prestige brands and on BMW premium models. Try the X1 ACC (adaptive cruise control, on a foggy day, or striving into the sun, or when snowing, or raining and it will often disengage because the single camera system cannot cope. I like my X1, it is a great car but there is no denying BMW see it as an entry level vehicle which shares most parts with the Mini Countryman. It most definitely lacks some of the tech you would expect it to have and (BMW trick you into thinking it has) which other cheaper brands include as standard. People new to BMW cars will not necessarily see the X1 flaws whereas someone who has owned a more expensive BMW models will realise pretty quickly. Nevertheless, I hope all X1 owners get joy from their car, I know I do. Last edited by MJE60; 02-21-2019 at 04:01 PM.. |

Well it IS an entry level BMW after all. If we don't count the 1 series, which is absent in the NA market and the new one will also be based on the Mini. If you want (can afford, tbh) more luxury and better tech, you go for the X3

New owner here since 2 weeks. Have already done 1500km and loving it. I have previously owned two 3 series (318i & 320d) and a 520d. Although it cannot match the 520d, it drives really well with enough space for a family of 5.
The seats are not perfect (I went for the normal ones and not the sport ones), but both my wife and I can both get comfortable in them also on long journies. |

Well the X1 is an SUV. The 3 series drives much sharper and is superior to the X1 when it comes to driveability. Much more fun and sporty to drive. But X1 has more space and is more practical. And you are sitting much higher.

Got an LCI sDrive 18i in the Connected Advanced Pack in Mineral White back in late November and I like it more than my first - pre facelift - X1 of 1/2017 that lacked many of the improvements installed since then!
Happy New Year !!!

Indeed the new gear lever (was available on non LCI since march 2018) is a very good change. Is it the same gear-box as the old lever or it comes with a new gear-box if everyone knows.
