I'm sure a lot if not all of you have seen it already but I recently watched Top Gun: Maverick. Gotta say, I was impressed, I really really enjoyed it. I expected it to be nothing but fan service a la Star Wars:TROS but it was just the right amount of callbacks without over doing it while telling an entertaining story. The flight scenes IMO were absolutely nuts. Probably gonna watch it again.

Family and I watched Top Gun Maverick: IMAX Edition last night.
Tom Cruise is still doing it at a very high level at this age! Much Respect! The entire movie was fantastic.

Recently saw Top Gun Maverick and also Bullet Train in theaters. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed both. I was uncertain about top gun, figuring it may just be one of those hyped sequels that flops. And bullet train is what it is. The previews pretty much give you the idea of what you're going into.

I'm surprised at the fact that it has cracked the $1B gross. But I'm kinda not as the 80s are returning in a ginormous way. Especially movies and shows!

I never saw the original Dune, which is weird as it's my kinda thing. Just saw the 2021 movie, absolutely STUNING visuals, like proper amazing, not just in your face but a lot of subtlety and very good framing of certain scenes. Not sold on the story, it's a bit odd to say the least and a bit plain for such a massive landscape.

Your guess is as good as mine. It probably made sense in Jordan Peele's head, but I found it to be a storytelling element that added nothing to the actual story.

I just watched this last night. Although I'm a big fan of Peele and this plot line was solid.... There was a lot to be desired. Keke Palmer was annoying AF. Main enemy, antagonist or whatever you want to call it was very lackluster. This film should have been much better. |

****POTENTIAL SPOILERS RE 'NOPE'****

Yup, definitely wasn't engaging enough, I had to 2x speed it, the pacing was SO SLOW, even w the faster speed!!! Peele is hit-or-miss for me, his s1 of Twilight Zone was quite poor but he improved in s2, some movies were good and some were bad/not as good. I dunno about the plot, a live ufo eating ppl? Not very interesting or visually stimulating, just seemed so silly and I couldn't buy it. The acting was hit/miss also. I know the guy's dad died but he was almost dead as well, can hardly get a reaction outta him, and like you said, his sister was too hyper. The tech guy was good, although a bit unrealistic in his rudeness to customers. That Wincott character was a caricature. Funny coincidence as it seemed a bunch of us watched it just last night.
