X1 Caught Testing in US
Hey All,
I happened to be in the neighborhood of BMW NA's headquarters a few weeks ago and caught the X1 pre-prod mule parked alongside the new X5M and X6M. You'll notice in one of the photos that there's an F48 without camouflage. This photo should also give you an idea of what size the X1 is relative to the X5/6. Enjoy! |

I had my car in for service at the local dealer (BMW Portland) on Monday and a salesman told me he had seen the new X1 at the dealership last week. Since they won't start production til sometime this month (July), I didn't believe him. But then someone in the service department told me the same thing! He said it was a "concept," had the badges covered up, and was only shown to dealer employees, not the public. So it looks like BMW sent around a pre-production copy to at least some of the dealers to see before the production models arrive.

What a shame! Thanks for sharing the pics, this might be the only available shot of a f48 in grey all around the web as of today. I have only seen the car as presented in white and dark blue so far, pics of other colors would be very interesting.

Interesting, the car in front of the X1 appears to be the LCI for the 4 Series Gran Coupe that's due in dealerships next year (i.e., 440i GC). The guys in the 4 series forum might be interested in your pics too.

Yep on closer examination you're exactly right. Also the chrome(?) strip across the back that extends into the tail lights helps give it away.
