Interesting that they are going to launch with the split exhaust when they didn't offer that on the X4

Much as I'm happy for BMW to keep exploring market segments, Im beginning to worry about product differentiation. I can't help but think this would be better as a two door, make it stand out a little from the X1.

I guess not, this looks very promising!
Look how happy the driver looks behind the wheel also.
I really like the Evouqe, and i think the X2 can do wonderes for BMW, If theyr executing it correct.
A promising start!
I don't really like the evoque roofline Or The mini hard top something that has a similar roofline but I do understand the styling of vehicles like this including why an X2 can sell well. Some drivers will want a boxy upright vehicle that can store as much as possible.

Others are fine with the same looks and a little less headroom and storage room. I believe the American manufacturing term is " fastback".

I wish it didn't have rear 3/4 Windows. Sort of like the Panamera but with a hofmeister kink.

The concept image, is that a Lincoln/FoMoCo abortion?

The new Rendering as well as the spy shots look way better than the previous rendering from June.

I see it positively when BMW goes for more niche models.
BMW produces luxury and premium cars. In the meantime BMW is selling more cars than some non-premium car-makers.
As a buyer of premium cars you would expect some exclusiveness. BMW cannot provide this if it grows only with the existing line-up. One way to achieve this exclusiveness is offering more exclusive models which are not offered by non-premium car-makers. The other way is increasing the prices even more. Personally I prefer a wider line-up instead of higher prices.

Your image link looks 'Evoque' like. It's all good though... I believe the X2 SAC will be heads over hills than any 'Evoque'

I am excited because once the mainstay of the luxury or premium segment with such niche vehicles they are being brought to the entry and mid-level customer band so we provide further Xcitement and innovation to the segment and customer responsible for the growth of such vehicles.

The new car will launch in production form at the 2017 IAA but we will see it a lot sooner soon enough. The next BMW X3 ushers in the next design phase for BMW X vehicles as soft lines make way for hard edges and angular features.
BMW X design will evolve from the regular car portfolio with its own unique design character bordering on modern, sporty and futuristic.

It all part of the growth of the segment and the evolving character of a BMW SAV which has not only progressed to Sport Activity Coupes. But soon Extended wheelbase seven seat options as well as Urban city crossovers. Allowing a BMW X model in each segment with alternative choice between standard , practical and sport.
Seriously dude, are you believing what you just said?

After my current F11 and the good lady's F15 I'm outa here. The new versions will be dull and characterless!!!! Where has the passion gone? Yeh, BMW are driven by profit as they should be, but at least do it with some style!!!!

They are now officially the "Ford" of modern car building.

How the mighty have fallen...... For the dollllaaa!!

Very true. But it does affect the brand image. And as fans of BMW (that's why we're here, isnt' it), it's not just specific models that we care about. I'll give you an example: This is how I see Audis: A3, longer A3 (A4), very long A3 (A6), big boned A3 (Q3), chubby A3 (Q5), morbidly obese A3 (Q7), etc.

I consider myself a car geek and I was genuinely confused when I visited the Audi stand at Goodwood this year. The all looked the same.

I'm still annoyed about all this 3 Series/4 Series nonsense. 3 different size categories for SUV seem reasonable: small, mid-size, big. But now we're talking about compact, sub-compact, etc. It's getting a bit ridiculous.

The people most annoyed by brand model variations are ones who are more than likely stuck in the past & quite unwilling to realize new market demand.

I like the concept but the execution better look better than that Lincoln MKX design front end.

Wow, not much has changed here, part of why I don't frequent so much anymore.

Fragment away BMW! You obviously know what you are doing. I don't think we can wait for 2017 to replace our CRV, and then another year before the PHEV X2? Will probably end up with an x1 PHEV. I sure hope the i brand gets a SAV at some point, that would be our first choice but if no new i models are coming before 2020, we'll have to go PHEV.

There will be a Nissan Leaf Crossover EV as well as one from Tesla long before 2020. Tesla is doing a crossover version of the up and coming model 3.

IAA 2017? Isn't that quite late for a new introduction of something based on the current X1?
