X1 Service Software Update?

Hello everyone!

Today I took my car to have the tyres changed from winter to summer tyres when my service adviser told me that there was a service update of some sort coming from BMW which required about 7 hours to complete (including changing the tyres).

I asked him what the update was and the response was, "we don't know, because BMW didn't tell us either."

My tyres were changed at the dealership's own service department which is why I'm surprised by their lack of knowledge in regards to the reprogramming...

Therefore, I wanted to know if anyone else has faced a similar situation with their X1 and if they know a little bit more regarding the "reprogramming" than my dealership?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

p.s. My X1 is a sDrive18i and I've owned it for about 5 months.

Keep an eye out after the update as the new version removes the road traffic sign reading. I have mine in the garage as of now to rectify this with .2 version of the update.

This may be the reason it takes 7 hours: If you have the collision avoidance option, and the software update affects that option, there is a time-consuming process to recalibrate it.

My service advisor said my wife's 2017 already has the software update. We bought it in late December, so I'm not sure I believe him.

I planned to use my electrically operated tow hook for the first time this week. X4 35i build june 2014.

I checked towhook two weeks ago, which stuck in almost fully out position. Warning: don't use....

I took car to dealer, who told me, hook could be fixed with software upgrade - 4 hours.

When I got it back there was a printout saying:due to tolerances, new software to rectify that - and possibly other things, had been developed april 2015.

I.e. BMW new as of april 2015 that my towhook was prone to get stuck/inoperable WITHOUT TELLING ME. This is BS.
