Burger Motorsports F48 B46 Intake

Well, now that testing is over and i can talk about it. I thought i would let you guys in on the secret. I was a tester for the prototype intake for our chassis/motor setup. Its a great piece, built very well. Brackets down to the existing airbox and sounds AMAZING. This isnt a plug, BMS isnt paying me in anyway to push this item. I bought a JB4 from them as well as a ton of lighting and in the process of speaking to Jason, he asked if i wanted to test out the intake for them free of charge. Of course, i said sure. They sent it to me within the week, ive had it on the car about 2 months now. The turbo screams with this thing and you hear the BOV or DV, whichever our cars have im not sure super loud. Give it some gas, let off and you get that TUTUTUTU. Really lay into it and you get the full PSHHHH. These are laymens terms obviously as its an intake, how in depth would you like me to get? I also planned some dyno time soon and im going to see what the power differences are for stock airbox, map 0(stock, 1 and 2 as well as with the BMS intake on map 0, 1 and 2. The intake is now listed on their website for you guys who are interested, they blessed me with a great product when theres minimal support for these cars out right now so i figured i'd just return the love back. Give it a go guys, its awesome. Here's some pics as well, dont mind the dirty bay in some of them and the zip ties in others... that was a temp solution before i installed the bracket. Next up is Flex Fuel wiring for the JB4 and some corn/93 mix. >

Thank you man, I agree! These cars can sound real aggressive when they want to!

That high? I doubt it man and if it does go that high, your probably f*#$%d anyway. Not like it goes all the way down to the bumper or by the floor. I haven't had any problems, knock on wood. A CEL early on for a lean condition but that went away in time as I believe the DME had to adjust for more air coming in.

I ordered mine last night! You have me extremely excited right now with the description of the turbo sounds... Its just what I wanted

(I know as it sits now, I can hear the turbo flutter quite nicely. Hoping the intake elevates that sound)

I finally received and installed my BMS intake yesterday but couldn't find a place to mount it so it wouldn't just dangle into the lower tray! Thanks so much for these photos, they're a life saver.

Hey Guys, sorry about the temporary hiatus. My son was born in may and between him and my first born daughter, work and just about everything else you could imagine I have very little time for anything else! Lol I uninstalled the intake because the car had to go back to the dealer just to be safe along with the jb4. I have since reinstalled the jb4 and haven't gotten around to putting the intake in but once I do, I will try my best at making a video for my fellow F48 comrades. Anybody else purchase and have any reviews? One thing I did notice is without the jb4 installed and on a higher map ( higher boost ), the intake was alot quieter so YMMV. Ill try to do a comparison in the video on stock settings vs map 1 and map 2 on the jb4 just to make sure. Just give me some time and I will get a video up ASAP.

Is the motor any louder? This is the big one for me. Will purchase.

Also pretty sure your intake would not constitute a warranty issue.

Right off the line you get a bit of a growl but as for louder, I would do the right exhaust flap mod. ( remove spring and secure flap open with some metal wire or whatever you can use ) Doing that really makes the car a bit louder. Intake you just mostly hear alot more of the Turbo.

Yeah I know but I'd rather be safe then sorry with them, takes two seconds and I'm under the Hood disconnecting the JB4 anyway. Not to mention my good buddy is my Tech also lol.

Yeah, I've read that before. Here in the US, that one side basically stays closed 90% of the time unless you do the mod. You'll see that side exhaust is brand new on stock X1s lol.

Thanks oreoOozZz! I just bought a 2017 X1 xDrive28i. Looking to see what BMS modifications can be made to it.

The engine is the 2.0-liter "TwinPower" Turbo inline 4-cylinder xDrive. Apparently the only choice available in the USA for 2017.

Searching around I learned that the internal name for the vehicle is F48. But not sure if the engine is B46 or B48? I thought maybe the 2016 version was B46 and the 2017 was B48, but then I heard they are the same engine.

More importantly, which BMS tune is for this vehicle?

It's the B46/B48/B58 JB4 Tune on the BMS Website. When you order it, make sure you click the BMW X1 tune within that section.

Thanks! I see the option "BMW X1 (MINI) B46/B48". (The other option within that section is "B38/B46/B48/B58 JB4".)

Regarding the intake mentioned earlier, is it "B46 BMW / MINI" instead of "B48 BMW"?

Yes, I believe so. Not to take away from BMS Intake performance, but I have a problem with open element underhood engine intakes, as they suck in hot air while at stand still, thus negating the benefit of cold air for power production. The OEM system is a true Cold Air system, compared to BMS system.

I agree about the hot air issue. One reason why i never got one for my e90... i was actually thinking of using it in non-summer months, if that even helps. but i'm not getting one for power as much as sound...

most people i've talked to agree with you on keeping the oem system. but i'm gonna pull the trigger on it soon, and maybe even do it on my e90 as well!

I purchased the Burger intake as well, it arrived last week.

Regarding warranty, my Service Adviser said that it doesn't affect the warranty UNLESS a problem is directly caused by the intake. However, it's probably worth confirming that your your own SA in advance before installing one.
