Yeah, yeah, yeah. Most Spartanburg built vehicles are being driven by housewives who buy them for the badge and treat them like appliances. They could give a rat's ass where they are built. We're talking about a premium, driving enthusiast's sports coupe. Aka the E30 or E46 M3 of today. I don't care how well-built a Mexican made car can be. It's a matter of principle in this case. Simple as that.

I will also add that when Mexico becomes a car buying super power and influencer like the US or China, then and only then could I possibly understand why BMWs are going to be made there. Granted, I don't have a particular affinity for Spartanburg-built cars, I can appreciate what it does for our domestic economy, job creation, etc. As one of the largest buying markets for those Spartanburg vehicles, I see it as Americans consuming what we produce and contributing to the nation's GDP. Any nation would be proud to have a similar situation. However, outsourcing production to a place where labor and materials sourcing is cheap, then importing them back to our shores and paying the same luxury tax seems like a lose-lose situation and a total rip-off to me. Again, if Mexico is so proud to be producing such quality vehicles, then they should be backing it up and eating their own dog food, so to speak, just like we do.

The mere fact you feel you deserve a discount because it's made in a different plant than it's homeland is just not the best thinking sorry to say. You aren't entitled to anything. As long as you're getting a premium vehicle that's reliable is mainly what you should care about.

No. You misunderstand. I do not feel entitled to anything. I'm the one with $75k-$100k to spend on a car and have certain criteria/desires out of the car before I feel like it's worth giving up that kind of money. If anything, BMW is the one feeling "entitled" if they want to build a cheaper car and think I will hand over all my hard-earned cash as if they are selling me a premium car built in a premium manufacturing environment (in terms of labor and materials cost). My comment about a discount was an analogy for the sake of making a point. If you didn't get that, well, I'd say it's hopeless having this discussion with you.

Get the M2 Comp and spend $30k less than what this CS will cost. All M2 variants have been sweet.

There is truth here. Having had a 230i THP I did ED on and now an M4, I can say the M4 is insane, but the 230i was probably closer to the traditional BMW. The 2 series is about as close as one can get to that original BMW feeling.

Trust me, she’ll go back to wanting the pony after experiencing how bad horse manure smells.

Do you really think that a company like BMW is going to go a less quality or cheap route because of a different plant? Yes it saves them money in other ways but not the way you're thinking. $hit Mexicans are probably the hardest working individuals I know. I think you'll be ok. I get what your saying and I did not misunderstand you. I think you're just coming off with the wrong mentality.

I acknowledge that Mexican production will be of the same quality. Again, just a matter of principle for me. No one has to agree. It's all good. People can vote with their wallets however they like.

And how is this possible when the regular 2 Series will be built on the FWD architecture? They will use different layouts for M vs non-M m cars of the same type? That doesn't seem to be BMW like in terms of operational efficiencies.

More like different layouts for the 2dr coupe and the 4dr "Gran Coupe" sedan.

The coupe will be the core 2 Series as its own platform. The 4 door "gran coupe" will be a derivative of the 1 Series/X1 platform.
