I'm writing to BMW ... this completely SUCKS!!!

Good news is the damage is hardly noticeable. Only a paint scratch between the 2 kidneys. Got an estimate this morning ... $450.00 and 2 days down time. Should be good as new by Thursday.
I can envisage scenario's where that could be really dangerous. LEt me know what BMW says. Glad the damage was only minor.

A policeman would be able to give you a telling off - if they were not all busy trying to catch us speeding.
What exactly is a "telling off"? Is that something like a "lumping up" that our police do here?

I'll use it in a sentence:

Rodney King got lumped up when he attacked the LAPD.

Actually he attacked the officers who tried to arrest him, then the officers responded with excessive force.

However, exceptions do apply. For instance, if inside the garage is a Ferrari 430..
Exactly. It all depends on how your toys rank.

YES... this is exactly my reason as well.
Sorry to hear about your damaged baby....

In other products, I've saved my ass a couple of times.
I wonder how difficult it would be to rewire.

It would involve the policeman advising you that you have been very bad and asking you politely not to do it any more.

If he was really cross he might even take your name and address.

i assume that is a security feature.

if u left your car outside (i know most ppl do), people could jsut smash ur window and open your garage with the homelink device.

I think Honda Homelinks are always on.

Don't know about Audi, but BMW and MB have been like that for years and years--at least as far back as my dad's E21 (1977) and our MB 280S (1975). My current VW is like that.

And you can't sound the horn between 11 pm and 7 am in a built-up area unless it's an absolute emergency.

From the Highway Code:

"92: The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively. You MUST NOT use your horn

while stationary on the road
when driving in a built up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

except when another vehicle poses a danger."

Unfortunately, no one in the UK uses the horn like that, we use it to rebuke other motorists who have cut us up and to tell others to get the hell out of our way.
