Hi all, I've recently brought a 2018 BMW X1 in the UK. First BMW so I'm extremely new to the scene. It has entry nav 2.

What's the best and most cost effective way now to go about getting android auto? I've been using the idrive maps for a few days but they are the 2018-2 maps and let me down today with routes/traffic. I've done alot of reading but the technical jargon and terminology is making my head spin.

I messaged a guy via a FB group who offered to fit something for £320 that will give me wireless android auto, is this cost effective? I don't mind fitting something myself if I can save a few quid and be sure what I'm buying is the right thing and I have some info I can follow.

Android Auto only possible in MGU Head Unit.

No, not possible Car has older ENTRVNAV (ROUTE) Head Unit. CarPlay not supported. Need newer ENTRYNAV2 (WAY) Head Unit or NBT2 EVO Head Unit.

I have Carplay running well even on full screen, but I am still not able to run the Android screen mirroring.
As I select Screen Mirroring option from the menu, the display is stuck on "Activating Wi-Fi"
Anyone had this problem? Is it coding, or what?
I have set all option related to Wi-Fi and WLAN to active but still the same.
2018 F48, with EntryNav2, all software updated to the latest version from July 2021

Android screen mirroring is not allowed on the X1 iDrive 6. I went into this over a year ago when I ordered a new X48. There is a thread somewhere on the forum. At the time I thought from a press release that it was going to be implemented. Sadly it is not.

If I remember correctly it was for later model cars with iDrive 7.

If I locate the relevant thread/post I will put a link up for it.

Note. It appears that android-auto-mmi-retrofit is required. See

I could possibly do the same when I get to that time, but that is not until September 2023. The problem is that I would have to purchase 2 because my wife has the same Samsung S10+ phone as I do.

MGU Head Unit (ID7) is required for Android Auto. NBT2 EVO (ID6) can do Android Screen Mirroring (Miracast), but ENTRYNAV2 (ID6) cannot.

As far as I know, all F48 have either old ENTRYNAV or newer ENTRYNAV2 Head Units.

Thanks. I was of the same opinion. I didn't think the NBTEVO was available for fitment on a new X1 F48 anywhere in the world. I asked you the question because your reply to me gave me the impression (and confused me) that there was! Remember we are discussing X1's on this X1 F48 forum and not others.
