Hi,

I have a european x1 produced in 2021 with business navigation. VIN is WBA11AB0105U37848.

I'll try to disassemble front panel to see if my head unit has a wifi port.

Q1: What about car service? If for example I go to the dealership for oil change and they upgrade car software. Do I need to repeat carplay activation again then?
Q2: I don't have a Windows PC. Only Macbook. Is it possible to make remote activation from virtual Windows running on top of VirtualBox?
Q3: Do I need to buy a wifi antenna and plug it into wifi port if my head unis has a port?

1. Dealer would not program car during oil change, but if you have services that required dealer programming, CarPlay needs to be reactivated. If FSC CarPlay FSC Code was utilized, it does NOT need to be replaced as it remains valid.
2. Mac you need Bootcamp.
3. WiFi antennae will always improve phone connection, but many do not use and it works so long as phone is close to dash.

I have recently purchased a BMW X1 20D M Sport in the UK, it's a 67 - late 2017 registration. I believe I have Entrynav2 with a 6.6" screen. How do I go about getting Apple Carplay?

I currently play my music through bluetooth which works quite well and it displays the album covers.

Im very happy to see that this thread is still up! So my wife just bought a 2018 X1 and i have been searching up and down to see how to get her CarPlay activated. What exactly is needed to upgrade or activate for carplay? My head is spinning from reading everyone's response. If I buy a 16 or 17, will I be able to get carplay without swapping the screen? Even if its the smaller screen?

CarPLay is possible on Smaller Screen, but to ensure car supports CarPlay, it should have option 6CP.

Hello, just registered on this forum to ask for help.
Short story:
Got my X2 M35i - 2020 from local dealer. To my surprise, no Carplay. After some research on different forums and resources I found out that my car has ENTRYNAV2 HU w/o WLAN port, so no Carplay. I had two options:
1. Retrofit with a MMI module
2. Swap HU with another ENTRYNAV2 with WLAN port.
Went for option 2, bought one from ebay, went to a guy who knows what is doing.
In 2 hour I had Carplay activated, all good, no Component Protection (wich I was afraid of).
Now the issue: After few days I looked in MyBMW app and discovered that Vehicle Finder wasn't working, said something about enable GPS tracking in my vehicle. I've searched everywhere in IDrive menu, no such option. Thought that removing and adding the vehicle again in mobile app will solve the issue, so I deleted the vehicle, but couldn't add it again, the car was not receiving the message for activation.
Swapped the old unit (original one), the message was received, added the vehicle again in mobile app. Change the unit again with the one with Carplay, same problem as before. No GPS tracking and now I cannot send the route from my app to the car, same issue, the car does not receive the message. Everything else works, lock, unlock, vehicle status, etc.
Question: Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to try or what may cause this behaviour? It's not a big deal, but I would like to have all the capabilities back and still enjoy the Carplay...

Try Update Services in iDrive under ConnectedDrive to force Provisioning of Car SIM Card.
