Given a run for my money by a diesel truck

I was coming home last night from a Christmas Party (didn't drink) and came behind a Ford F350 Powerstroke which sounded sickkkk! We were on a divided highway with nothing around so I moved into the other lane to pass. When I got even with him he gunned it and we were soon doing 90mph. I noticed he had a set of 4 gauges on the A pillar.

I don't race much on the street and had the wife with me. At the next light because of a couple of cars, I ended up directly behind him. He gunned it from the light, clouds of black soot everywhere. I'll be honest, I had to try my best to keep up with him.

This thing was fast. I know Banks makes a package that can double the power of these trucks. This guy definitely had some work or was maybe running propane - dunno.

Later realised he was a member of the club that had the Xmas Party so I can ask him next time I see him.

Next truck I buy will be a turbo diesel

I think from a stop light in a bona-fide race I would have beaten him since I didn't have to run flat-out to keep up with him and he was red-lining it through the gears.

However, I had to try really hard not to change up to early in case I lost him.

Good job it's a lease. 335i in my future

with the right tuning kit those trucks can easily push 600+ hp and 1000 ft lbs

diesel can be pretty fun, I had the chance to drive a tuned diesel ford and I actually thought it was sort of scary... so much power with so little brakes or handling

ya i got me a 2500HD chevy with the DURAMAX turbo Diesel and ALLISON tranny! Im about to throw the banks kit on it at the beginning of next year.
heres what they say:
Optimum fuel tuning for awesome power (+155 hp, +385 lb-ft), built-in safety and adjust-on-the-fly power, plus flexible touch-screen vehicle command center.

A friend of mine in BC has a FI'd F250. I've been in it, never driven it; but I would imagine it would be very hard for a 330i/G35 to keep up with it especially from a stand still.

My little joke was meant to imply that anything can go fast at a cost. Lately I have tallied our family gas bill and this year it will total in the neighbourhood of $11,000. So right now all I can think of is fuel efficiency.

I don't understand why you would take a shot at me for a little fuel efficiency joke, sorry if I upset you, KenB.

Enywhykiid, I love your avatar pic, is that your girlfriend?

Actually for the most part, most of my 2700 posts ARE crap, Ken, you're right on the money there. I come here to relax and have fun, not to make some kind of Important Personal Manifesto that the world will cherish someday. Oh, and I've made some great friends around Montreal too, people who I really respect and whose company I enjoy. Have a nice day.

on a infinite downhill and 60mph back wind...

lol

but seriously I only guess this would be like best and worst, 20mpg at 60 on cruise and flat road, 5 or 6mpg when racing everything else on the road... I'd be curious to see his "real" combined MPG
.

you'd be surprised how well a diesel truck can do.....

of course it's going to be worse than any E9X, but diesel's a very efficient process... much more efficient than the otto cyle.

talking crap about a truck's MPG when it's kicking your butt is just dumb.

I should add, we do have the same options for truck here, gas or diesel, I guess we just make some simple calculations that it take a loonng time to recover the premium they ask for diesel vs gas by MPG savings alone, unless pulling heavy loads or some other special uses.

There are some things people like me will never like about a diesel as a daily driver like noise, smell and dirty pumps... following one that had some tuning done is even worst, thank god for recirc button on dash... so IMHO, for these reasons diesel truck sucks, these are my facts, thanks for sharing your love.

I am no fan of pick-up trucks, but they are making some of them very fast these days.

Ward relax, I was just cracking a dumb joke and Mr. Porsche/troll kenB jumped all over me...relax you guys, one day we'll all have diesel Bimmers and then we can take on those evil pickups at the red lights!

With all due respect, KenB is one of those guys in his Cayenne who would be flashing his brights behind someone in a school zone.
