Tire recommendations - non-run flat

Stock RFT Goodyear's are finally worn out, thank god. Horrible tire. My plan currently is to switch over to Michelin Pilot Sport AS3. Only thing I'm slightly worried about is tire life - not looking to replace them again in 20k. Are there any other tires I should consider?

Continental TrueContact Tour Option

I've been looking at this tire as a non-RF replacement. Highly rated on Tire Rack. I'm looking for a quieter and smoother ride with good AS traction. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...andard%20Tires

I have the ExtremeContact DWS on order. All seasons. I have these on my Audi as well and they handle well across wet and summer.

If you are not going run flat, are you going to get a spare as well?

Yes, probably going with the Bimmerzone kit.

I'll be switching to a 235/50-18 Pirelli scorpion verde
I have these on our Volvo S60 Cross Country and they are phenomenal. I had them through what I consider blizzard like conditions twice over one of our passes here in WA and for all seasons they are the best. Great summer traction, wet traction. This is a tire that will allow me to not have to have a dedicated winter set for the F48.

First, I think you'll find any quality non-RFT tyre gives better ride and lower interior noise than the RFT equivalent. So, you have many choices that you know you'll immediately notice are better.

We changed ours about 18mths ago — I wanted the Michelin, but they weren't available, so we ended up with Pirelli P7 (the OEM tyre was the P7 RFT). So far, they have worn much better than the RFTs for some reason (well, because my wife is driving it mostly now — I've bought something else).

Also, regular rotation is very important for tyre wear longevity on this model — rotate every 5-7,000 miles (10,000km)

Around 3 years ago, I had cause to change from RFT tyres onto normal tyres on my UK F25 X3 xDrive 30d MSport. My RFT's always gave me a hard and noisy ride. I made sure that I purchased the equivalent Standard Tyre as recommended by BMW UK. Important because the car had a staggered setup.
The difference in ride quality (for the better) was quite pronounced. They seemed to be wearing at the same rate as RFT's.
Naturally, you will have to carry a can of tyre sealant and/or carry a spare wheel.
I have specified for my new 2020 X1 drive 20i M Sport normal tyres and a space saver in the boot (trunk).
I do not think you will have a problem with tyre wear, because as far as I can remember the rubber compound is identical on both RFTs and normal tyres if using the equivalent tyre from the same manufacturer.

I'm in the same boat as the OP, so if others have non-RFT recommendations I'd love to hear them.

I'm still on the factory fit Bridgestone Turanza T0001 Non-RunFlat on 225/50x18, 99W tyres. The road noise on certain, rougher/concrete type surfaces is utterly dreadful, so won't be buying those when they are due for replacement in a few months time. That's despite the road handling quality and wear being OK.
I have a separate set of BMW winter wheels that I fit from late October to March, 205/60x17 fitted with Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 and the ride quality/road noise is infinitely better, whilst the handling is still good although admittedly not quite as good as the Turanzas.
I'm looking at fitting Michelin Primacy 4, summer tyre next time because the EU the label shows 'A' for rain use, 'B', fuel consumption and 68db road noise (appreciating that is road noise heard externally, but not necessarily transmitted to car interior, as is the case with all EU market tyres). It seems the new summer, Turanza T0005 EU tyres may be much quieter, so that is an option to stay with Bridgestones.
Still a little while to go as the summer tyres still have around 4-5mm tread left on all wheels.

Am I the only one that had the Goodyear star RFTs? I don't hear many people reference them.

No matter what tyre type/ set up we have had on all our cars, this has always been a common theme. It is the tarmac used on UK roads. Also the aged tarmac/concrete is bad. Even the highways agency has recognised this and has been testing and in the case of the Oxford bypass (A34) they have replaced the surface with a later surface compound and it has proved to be quieter. Also the more the tyres have worn down (less tread) the more noisier they get.

I had similar winter tyre wheels on my X3. The Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 are softer rubber with sunflower oil (yes true) that makes them quieter. They were non RFT to.

Does anyone have experience comparing the Michelin Primacy vs. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+?

Both get great reviews but they're different classes of tire, with the Primacy emphasizing comfort over performance. I'm definitely looking for a softer ride compared to the RFTs, but I don't want to feel like I'm driving on marshmallows. So I'm leaning toward the Pilots but would like to hear from others.

I have the Goodyear RFTs on mine. They have just over 33k miles on them now and I can't wait to get rid of them. Their ride is loud especially on older, rougher pavement. I get so much tire noise on the highway. They're down to about 1/4th of their life now and I'm definitely going non-RFT for my next set. Looking at the Pirelli P-Zero All Season or the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3.

Although not on my X1, I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on my other car and they're great. Handles well in corners and not too noisy for a sportier type of all season tire. Comfort is about the same as my old tires (Hankooks). Once my RFTs need to get replaced on X1, the Michelin Pilot 3+ will be at the top of my list.

I think I'm going to go with the Conti DWS06. Really, really tough decision between them and the Michelin A/S 3+.

The Michelin seems like a wonderful tire, but truth be told I'm an "un-spirited" highway and suburb driver and everything I read suggests the Conti leans toward comfort/quietness while the Michelin leans toward sporty performance. The Conti also seems to get more consistent praise for its winter performance and is cheaper at the moment. I plan to use the savings to cover the cost of adding a spare tire kit.

Looking forward to getting rid of these RFTs!

Just had the DWS06 tires installed. No driving impressions yet because I drove gingerly back from the shop while my car was loaded with the old tires and rims.

However, I wanted to post pictures for those who are shopping for tires:

Reporting back now that I've driven a bit on the DWS06's.

Rides so quiet and smooth! Seriously, dead quiet compared to the RFTs. The softer ride will take some getting used to after becoming accustomed to the harsh RFTs, but the grip is outstanding and I read in multiple places that these tires will firm up some after you put some miles on them. If true, that'll be perfect.
