You have a pic of it from behind?

I was looking into 235/45/19 for a little more width and height. The 245/40 would be wider but shorter?

These are the original DWS06's as they haven't received stock of the plus yet. They are a matching set all with date code 3120 which is nice.

Maybe hard to tell from the pics (245's on top), but they are definitely wider and you really cannot notice the 3mm shorter height. I too was looking at the 235/45, but I was more interested in width versus height.

I like the look the 245/40's and 45's provide, you will like the performance gain too.

245/45's would give you a little more life due to it's larger circumference.

Both will work on an 8" wheel

The shorter 3mm height will effect gas mileage slightly as you will require higher revs to achieve 60 mph. The accuracy of the speedo at 60 mph will be off slightly, You will actually be doing 58.5mph, this will save you on speeding tickets lol.

Let us know if the .7" extra width effects road spray down the side of the vehicle in wet weather. Does the extra width make contact with the front inner fender when turning lock to lock?
My speedometer already reads a couple mph faster than my actual speed. Been trying to figure out if it is my car or both my friends Subaru's that are off. Pretty sure BMW just wants us to give them a better name by driving reasonably haha.
The tires do look great though. Had Michelin A/S 3+'s installed recently and they're a world of difference from the stock RFT Pirelli's, and a veritable steal as far as cost. I'm sure the DWS's are even more comfortable on the road. Dang chain stores though, all that money plus an alignment and they don't even bother to air up the tires before handing me back the key.

Mine are 245/40, not 245/45, so the speedo is not off by much

Attached is also a pic I took of a couple of random brand tires showing the difference between the 2 sizes.

The speedometer is off, I believe it's done by bmw to something like speedometer speed is 6% higher than actual speed or something like that. I can't recall which forum or where I read it but I know the speedometer reading is higher. In Carly app you can code it the car to read actual speed. You may have to also code wheel / tire size to be more exact. Check on waze your reported speed vs speedometer speed to verify.

Had the AS3s for over 2 years now. They're an awesome tire, long life, great handling and quiet.

How many miles?

I'm still running factory continental runflats and am at 9100 miles. Lots of treadlife left.

I'm looking into either the Michelin CrossClimate2 or the Nokian WR G4 tires since I'm not going to bother with a dedicated snow setup.

guessing I need to take some long vacations that are far away to wear these out.

I had the AS3+ on my F33 and they were phenomenal! Didn't test longevity since I traded it in.

On my AS3 for 2 years, I've only driven 25k km. Still lots of tread life left.

I thought it wasn't recommended to fit a 245/40 tyre in an 8" wheel: https://www.tyresizecalculator.com/c...rim-size-chart

I also want to ask if you had trouble mounting a non-RFT tyre with the OEM 19" wheels since I believe it's prepared for RFT tyres.

Thanks!

245/40 is fine and calls for up to 8" wheel. I wanted 255's, but they require minimum 8.5"

No trouble mounting...the wheel doesn't know the tire is not a RFT.

Thanks!

My understanding was that RFT tires have different 'lips' for mounting. That's why I thought rims need to be special.

Unfortunately, this is not always correct. There is a user on another forum who for some reason has 2 wheels sets that look exactly the same but have slightly different part numbers. One part number will take normal tyres and Run Flats, but the other will only take Run Flats.
The best option is to check the part numbers with BMW and see what can be fitted.

"Some" wheels maybe. I've never had an issue with any vehicle I have swapped from RFT to non-RFT.

From Tire Rack:

Many drivers are uncertain whether they can put non-run-flat tires on wheels that originally came with run-flat tires. The short answer: yes.

Run-flat tires and regular tires that are the same numeric size will have the same physical dimensions, and can fit properly on the same wheels. The only difference with run-flat wheels is they usually have an extra hump behind the bead seat. This hump would help keep the run-flat tire in its proper place on the wheel while driving without air pressure. It does not affect the performance or compatibility of the non-run-flat tire.

No matter what tyre rack say, or your experience, the person concerned DID have the problem, hence the reason I posted the statement.
It is BMW who made the original statement and is NOT made up.

And you didn't even need wheel spacers, did you? No rubbing whatsoever with your current 245/40 setup.

No spacers and no rubbing. Ride is much smoother and handles better. I always ditch RFT's if a vehicle has them. All of my expert tire guys are against RFT's.

I have 19" Niche Aftermarket wheels with Toyo non-Run flats....I hate run flats. They're expensive up here in Canada and with our pot holes, crevices. cracks, sunken man hole covers and expansion joints on our shitty roads in Quebec, I've heard a lot of bad stories of exploding tires and replacements costing up to $800 per tire! So I used the original wheels that my 2018 came with and use them for winter with proper winter tires that is the law here in Quebec and I bought Toyo Extensa XP 245/40/19 and very happy with the look, performance and low highway noise. I have no spare and instead I have a flat tire bottle/bong that has a stem/hose that screws to the valve stem of the tire and fills it up and seals the hole...up to a point of course except if it's a catastrophic failure of the side wall which has never happened to me. The puncture repair is good enough to make it to the garage in time for a replacement or repair.
