Retrofit front PDC to 2017 F48

Hi,

I 'm thinking of changing the front bumper and I would like to consider retrofiting front PDC. to mention that my car already has rear PDC (S507).
I would like your help, first of all if this venture is possible (both in terms of HW and in terms of coding).
I think the materials needed are:
  • 9374833 Operating unit, center console
  • 66209274428 sensor x 2
  • 66209312622 sensor x 2
  • 66209283203 Decoupling ring PDC torque converter x 4
  • 61129392513 Wiring set PDC

What i can't find is where the "Wiring set PDC" cable will terminate and if an extra cable is required to connect to "PDC Control unit" and also where in the car is this control unit.
I imagine coding will not be that difficult

any help is welcome!!

Hi Poseidwnas

I know your struggle. I been searching all over to find a "used" wiring harness from the PDC box to the front of the car. I also been talking various dealers with no luck - but finally i found a BMW dealer who was able to help me. Below you find the parts list i received from the dealer, apparently you should be able to use a retrofitting kit from other BMW model.

Number Count text
66202338070 1 Retrofit kit, Park Distance Control, frt
51118072823 1 "Set of mounts, front PDC / PMA sensor M"
51118072775 1 "Grill, side, open, left M / PDC"
51118072776 1 "Grill, side, open, right M / PDC"
66209283203 4 Decoupling ring PDC torque converter
61128715299 1 Wiring set PDC, front
2 PDC sensor color
2 PDC sensor black

If interested i can give an update when it is installed and coded. I have an M sport hence some of the trim can be diffierent

Please share any update on this. Could you please share also how much does it cost?

Thanks

Will do -

The parts you need to check yourself. I guess the prices can vary a lot depending on countries.
I'm not doing it myself as it needs to be coded via ISTA P - but the BMW dealer put in 3 hours on the offer.

Thanks!

Looking at the pieces, you have around USD 1,000.-

So, the entire work should be maybe around USD 1,600.- ??

It's too much for me, but it's good to know that it's possible.

The most expensive parts are the PDC sensors - so i bought them via eBay and reduced the cost for parts drastically.

Hey

Sorry for no update on this. I’m actually doing a major upgrade of the car with both NBT EVO, rear view camera and front PDC. We where missing a headunit with the right part number, so we had to postpone it a bit until we find the right unit.

Part number is not really important.
You just need ANY NBT EVO ID5/6 (black top) with GPS and MOST (if you have Harman/Kardon or 6WA cluster).

Wermuth, sounds like you found a great dealer. The ones around me aren't very helpful with retrofits. They instead try to sell a newer car.

So it finally happen (actually some time ago, but time have been very busy on the private site of things). I went to the dealer and they installed it along with a lot of other upgrades, 6UP (NBT evo) and revise camera.
Don't know if I should say fortunately or unfortunately, but it ended up that my car wasn't able to accept front parking sensor only but needed to have parking assist instead. So it is now equipped with that instead.

They told me it is because my car from 7/19 which make it as pre-LCI model. So it couldn't be fitted with only front parking sensors. It is all-though possible to do only front parking sensors if the car is a bit older than mine.
You can more or less check it if you car has 6UP instead of 609 for NBT. This also coursed me a lot of troubles during this upgrade. (so if any missing a 609 upgrade kit for an X1 feel free to reach out )
So along site of the other spare parts previously mentioned I also bought a new PDC box and two sensor for parking assist. Some custom wiring was done to connect these two into the retrofit wiring loom. Big thanks to smercki who came with the solution who did this mood previously.

So again, it is possible

Retrofit front PDC to 2017 F48

Hi i am having troubles retrofitting front PDC on a F48 X1 2016. Can someone please run me through the procedure. I have even tried a PMA module as i thought maybe to support the front ones it needs the PDC module replaced with PMA but still no luck. I have obviously removed the 507 and added 508 option.

Also a big question for me; By any chance are there any headunits which don't support the front PDC on this vehicle?

Thanks, all help GREATLY appreciated as i have a dismantled car and pulling my hair out at this point.
