No its not about avoiding human interaction, its just that its so convenient. I live on long island and work in Manhattan so for me going to the grocery is just another chore on my way to get home.

Cutting this extra 30-1hr chore out of my week gets me more personal time with the family or time to just decompress from the day.

Are you a lonely supermarket worker or living in a 1950's TV show? Why should groceries be any different than anything else purchased online? Personally, the only human interaction I have at a supermarket is saying "Yes, I want that in a bag" to the checkout clerk and asking other customers to move the cart they left blocking an aisle. I have more interaction talking football for 45 seconds with my UPS driver.

As the government pushes more costly regulation (healthcare, minimum wage) and people continue work more hours with less personal time, you should expect more efficiency and less human interaction in retail. That train has already left the station.
