IAT poll for anyone that is logging

Just wanted to get a quick poll out there to see how everyone's car is running. If you have a dongle for coding, you can certainly get this info. I have noticed that when it's 85+ ish my IAT's are about 120-130. I was looking today when it was 92 outside and I was hoping to see once I get going around a 50-60mph steady clip for the temps to drop.. but it stayed pretty close to 130. The funny thing is that when stuck at stoplights it did not climb any higher at all! Oil temps were also pretty high at 240/50 (which is still in normal range.. especially when it's HOT!) I am toying with the idea of putting my stock intake on just to see if the temps do much changing, but I'm a little lazy right now to change it all... I do like the slight increase in sound, and I definitely like more crackle/pop from the exhaust as it is. I also sort of feel like the rear vents didn't put out a lot of cold air by feeling with my hand. My daughter is always on the cold side so she didn't complain one bit, while I had all the vents pointing at me blasting away

It was 85 outside when I went in to work, and once I hit the highway the IAT slowly creeped down to 100 even. It was around 110 ish on the local roads (and surely my car wasn't warmed up overly). Keep in mind I was going 80+ mph steadily with not many cars on the road. Once I got downtown and was driving stoplight to stoplight it crept back up to 120 until I parked. I'm not concerned, but merely curious.

Wow those are some crisp screen shots! Were you on lower speeds or highway speeds? This makes me feel better that the open intake doesn't seem to change temps significant enough for me to spot it. Thanks for posting!

Normal roads. I did notice that getting on throttle dropped temps pretty fast and stoplights made them rise considerably. These are both stopped.

Cruising was 108-110

My commute is 40min/20mi so when I go to work I’ll see what happens. It’s a good mix of highway, busy streets and country roads.

I'm interested that your oil temps are so much higher.

I'll log a few more.. the days I was logging it was super hot and humid (although I imagine Boston is similar to Atlanta). Today is around 80, so it should compare.

Okay, so it was pretty blazing hot.. 92F on the way home, although not as humid as it was the other day. Here's my summary:

Getting up to speed on the highway it was 217ish oil temp, 105 IAT. Oil temp went a little past 220. Again.. we're talking about 60mph + with a decent amount of cars on the highway.

Once I got local oil temps went up to 228 max. IAT was 116 and climbing. I got home and stopped on the driveway to take my trash bin out, so I wanted to just let it idle in the heat. Oil temp did not exceed 228, but IAT went skyrocketing to 136. I punched the throttle a few times at idle and it went down right away to 132.. and I drove it inside the garage to park it. The first day I commented on above 240 oil temp was very very hot, and I was in much stop and go on a secondary road with avg speed limit at 45.

That’s good news. It proves the intercooler works.

I wonder what your front tire temps were when your oil was 250 since the coolers dump right on your tires.

Hmm that's interesting.. the intercooler air could certainly be pretty hot.. I should look at my tire display next

So now I almost wish I didn't look at the tire temps.. haha. On the drive to work it was much cooler.. around 80F, IAT's around 105. Tire temps started off pretty cold, 60's but went up dramatically fast on the highway. I expected this, but had no idea how much. The fronts went all the way up to 107F! Rear tires were almost 10F cooler. Tire pressure went up from 36psi to 40psi. Now we'll see on the way home when it's much hotter how much more it goes up Left side seemed to be a few degrees warmer than the left side even though I was going in a straight line on the highway pretty much.

Haha, I brought it up because an m5 guy mentioned his left was always 10 higher and someone mentioned the cooler dumping there which made me think, damn we have the same thing.

Damn that's hot! And your oil temps are still pretty low too!

The only funky thing I have is my license plate bolted inside the front mouth of the grill.. I can't see that blocking a 10F difference in temp. Hmm....

Pretty sure the oil coolers are the lower side ones. I run motul, that's the only thing I can think that is different.

I'm still just running whatever BMW oil they use.. only like one or two oil changes in since their interval is 1 year or 10K miles. I've considered doing my own in between, but I don't really push the car too hard and I'm not worried about it. When the wife's lease ended on her X1 I changed to liqui-moly 5w40 which I liked to run on all my other BMW's.

I am not leasing so I’m listening to the shops advice and doing 5k. MOTUL is 80 bucks, the liquimoly is a good price. I think the shop will do it for $79.
