It's not a secret BMW embarked on an aggressive cost cutting program. Every cost cutting program has a peer: how to generate more revenue without investing a lot of money.
Appearance packages - for the lack of a better word - are the answer, especially ones without any limits. None of this is a surprise. Just sign of the times. |

To be fair, BMW has always done these M-appearance packages towards the end of a model run. Same as my sport + edition e92 (thankfully with no M badges or stripes, but a few features that were previously "M3 exclusive" like blue stitching on the black leather interior) to try to move the last e92s when buyers knew full well that the F32 was imminent.
Began with the e12 & e21 appearance packages that included wheels and trunk spoiler / Recaro seats, M stripes + badges but no extra HP. eg. e21 Motorsport edition - could be had on the 320i or 323i. I actually think the mesh looks better on the X2 grille than on the M340i |

Horrible, the only good thing is the color. Everything else just leaves you scratching your head.
If its on a 28i why not boost the power? make it 3 series power level at least. Also watch out guys, if you don't agree with what BMW does, you'll get the MOD hammer!!

True - but if anything the genuine M Division cars were even more hardcore at that point as the only cars produced up until then were the M1 and the e12 M535i (that had the M88 engine from the M1).
So the equivalent of a tarted up 320i with a stripe kit is pretty much what we're seeing here with the X2. |

Whatever upgrades their are they look nice on the X2, especially the seats with the one piece headrest and ample side bolsters, I wish it was standard on all BMWs.
But BMW exterior design team, what is up with these incredibly cheesy 🧀 stickers that your slapping on these expensive vehicles? I wish the new M4 & M3 had a proper Hoffmeister Kink with the cool rear side BMW badge! That is a old-school and beautiful design element!!! |

Honestly, it's not going to fit the fierce curve of sport. Instead it looks very Coopery, Mini Coopery. Sport stripe on a car that's less than capable and the fruity flower wheels. C'mon.
Oddly enough, there may be a small market for this. |

BMW is banking that some will buy anything because it has the new car smell.

Holy what the actual crap happened... the M Mess? I saw that comment.. you know what else peaked my curiosity? Is it all orange and cheeto like.. and has a MAGA license plate? Are they poking fun at Americans? I don't think I see one thing about this variant that I like! If I had to pick.. it's the M stripes on the seats.. that are there in every other country except for USA. I'm not sure if the suede tops are really useful or not.
