Btw... The "ugly" E65/E66 was a top seller ... Also the I3 was extended because of the high demand ...
I meant G80...all these letters! So what is it about the G80 you like or is it just the fact that it is "new"?

I have bought an average of 2 new cars a year for about 30 years. It all came to a halt a few years ago when the new designs no longer interested me. But the G80 is simply disfigured to me. Now, I own 3 6-series (most beautiful daily driver in years) and hope to expand that collection by 1 or 2 more 6-series (in addition to my other BMWs).

Except in this case the clueless guys at BMW say it because they heard Steve Jobs etc say it and say it because it sounds right. New BMW Car designs are ugly. Its not some controversial view, it is a common view now. Noone would call their cars pretty.

Doug Demuro latest vid on them is another mainstream YT who is not sponsored by them is coming out and calling them like it is. Clueless company run by clueless people. And I had 7 or so BMWs. Not planning to buy their new cars again. For me the E90 was a good looking "modern" BMW, and F30 still looks coherent and fresh. Everything thats G series is pretty ugly and disfigured.

Thank God we all don't have the same taste, otherwise we will drive all the same car...

For my part I can't wait to get something "different", but hey... Nokia users also hated the iPhone tho.

It is good we don't all have the same taste. Things would get bland very quickly. Your example of the iPhone is spot-on. Literally the same OS, the same design, the same everything and 50% the world is addicted to it.

That said, I still can't come up with a good excuse for the new design direction for BMW including the new 4 and the iX. I think what's rubbing us all the wrong way is the fact that they are insulting us for not liking their schizophrenic design. They've even used discriminatory and derogatory terms to their fans and consumers.

I do psychological profiling for work and dukec is absolutely an entitled, white privileged, narcissistic ass. So the new 4 is basically a reflection of that disgusting attitude. I think that's really what a lot of us see when we see that car which makes it look even uglier than it is.

That is correct. I was perhaps too general in my statement. However, he is clearly talking about the new big grille, the car looks. I assume the big grille does not negatively affect the mentioned "aero performance, vehicle size, specific brand details, usable functions and features".
it depends. Do you know what is the car's Cd?

Also, one of the key requirements during design process is damage and collision repair. It may be more expensive to repair vehicles with larger kidneys if there are more parts.

My opinion is that dukass couldn't bring anything new and sophisticated to the design so he came up with "something" new that looks like Merylin Manson designed it.

I am amazed that the board allowed it especially on M3. Farah said it is a mistake and although I don't watch most of his videos I agree with him on this one (440i video).

Yes. That does look pretty sweet from the front. It still looks bulbous from the side because it's lacking the zicker line and the Hofmeister kink. And it still looks very childish and unrefined in the back with curves and grooves that are unnecessary and a very large trunk area on the back. The rear lighting looks exactly like what Hyundai is using now.

Imagine how the engineers who actually spent thousands of hours honing the details that relate to the actual purpose of these cars (which is to be driven), are feeling as they watch the stupid grill dominate all the attention? Every conversation regarding these cars have and will have to start with something about the grill. Must be demoralizing

It's still a disaster, just not as bad. The sides are terrible, mirrors are trash, the lines make no sense and no longer go through the door handle, on and on. The best part of the picture is we don't have to wonder if it's a Lexus while looking at the rear. The car sucks!

Is this an accurate quote? This is pretty crazy if it is and they think 20% is a good approval rate. Imagine doctors had a 20% success rate. Today's world all you REALLY need is to make a beautiful car. THey all drive well, they all have tech. How can you miss it so badly and still have the role at determining the design.

Totally agree. I ordered one as I'm definitely ready for something new after 4 years and there are no other good options for me, but I agree that knowing the man behind the car makes it less desirable.

Yes it is. I don't know why they would let that thought out into the public.

“Not all our products get the same critics,” Dukec said. “You can see that on something as polarising like the kidneys on the 4 Series, 20 per cent of people are liking it. That fits to the type of customers we are targeting.

I was leasing 2 new cars every year on one-year leases. Eventually, we changed to two-year leases but we still had multiple cars. For the last 4 years or so it's going down to one new car a year at most. In addition, we're not doing leases anymore and we're buying used cars, which I've never done before simply because the new cars do not interest me at all. Design language doesn't make sense and I like manual transmissions, which are no longer really made. Finally, I like buttons and knobs and I hate all this touchscreen crap on cars. They are incredibly distracting, dangerous, and slower than a button/knob.

"I was a little bit disappointed with BMW's design language when I joined the company"

More evidence of Karen Dukec desire to completely kill the brand and its traditions. And this articles from 2019! This is way before the backlash really started. Now he's just making excuses and blaming all the customers for being idiots instead of admitting that his vision was wrong and he has completely destroyed this brand permanently.

As many have eloquently stated in this thread. BMW was late to the game on many fronts. They tried to reinvent the brand and screwed up. They will no longer be looked as pioneers, classy, prestigious, innovative, or unattainable. They will be looked at as a brand trying too hard with some shity looking cars.

I'm confused... is the E60 5 series looked back on fondly for its design? If so... that's news to me.
Seriously - at least Bangle’s a known quantity at this point. AVH can go forth and multiply because I’d rather have Bangle than Big Mouth Bass Adrian...

For everyone comparing Bangle to Karen Dukec, remember that Bangle kept ALL BMW design cues, was progressive with his designs (not revolutionary or revolting), was rational, and had some of BMW's best recent designs (E92 comes to mind).

Folks, there is no comparison between the two. One is a true professional, the other is disconnected from reality and has a serious personality disorder.
