Every time I see a spy photo of the G87, I love my F87 CS even more
Not so sure that's a G87 let alone a CS variant.

Why can't I get the larger images when I click on them individually?

You are comparing a regular 2 series to a top of the line model though

I see nothing wrong with the look of the car in the photo...pretty aggressive looking in fact for a regular 2 series

The G87 will look mean...power dome, 1M style fenders...the proportion of the front grill is yet to be determined but I am confident they won't fuck up this time given all the non-positive sentiments pouring heavily over the current M3/M4
I sincerely hope you are right because my next BMW will either be the G87 M2 or a Porsche, depending on how right you are

Personally, I don't think it's majorly different, especially the rear.

Let's see what a final 'nice spec' M2 looks like.

Wholeheartedly agree. All this CF is starting to look tacky. Also as a DD I don't want to be paranoid about damage to the CF esp when it's on all the areas of the car that are a magnet for scrapes/scuffs (front spoiler, rocker panel, rear diffuser).

Interior wise, I'd rather have more leather wrapped and soft touch material than CF everywhere. Although it's better than piano black.

Do agree with the IOMG.
The carbon buckets are a $3800 option on the G80/82 and the CF roof should be standard on all M coupes, IMO. Hell, even if they made the CF roof a $1200 option, I'd still tick it. Adding those two items would not even come close to adding $20k to the price. The current F87 CS is $20k more than the comp and it has way more additions than what I'm asking for. I really don't want anything else in carbon fiber like mirrors, diffuser, lip etc. that stuff doesn't matter to me.

I agree, too much carbon is tacky looking, but a CF roof like the M3/4 and optional CF buckets are something I'm interested in... and it would also be my daily driver but YMMV.

Interesting that the C-pillar is camouflaged: is BMW M toying with the Hofmeister kink or considering the idea to affix a BMW logo (as on the BMW 3.0 CSL and 3.0 CS and CSL Hommage) ?

Recently the X2 also got this feature as a change for the sake of change ("For true distinction, the BMW emblem has been repositioned next to the Hofmeister kink on the C pillar. Just another case of breaking the rules.").

Just remember that it is scheduled to go into production in December 2022. Still a long road ahead to a final version.

The test mule pics look good then I see this render and it looks like BMW is going in the same direction as the G80/82 in terms of the exterior styling; lots of angles, the gloss black skirts extending around the vehicle, and then there's the head/tail lights. To my eye it already looks over styled just looking at the front and rear end shots.. hope I'm wrong

Side profile is looking great. Seems like they smoothed out the awkward, stumpy rear end of the current gen.

Really hope they upgrade the interior to near 3/4 series level as well. The materials and sound system in my M235 are not impressive.

I'm sorry for the rude interruption, but only half? Surely they'd still be producing half-shit designs?

Unfortunately, this is not a render. It was a real photo out of Mexico.

Now whether this is a final design or not, anyone's guess. Also the M version should get different front and rear bumpers.
I'll say it now, the headlights design is horrid if this car is the final design.

No doubt, WTH? I've had my 135i right at 10 years and love it, but have considered moving on. The more I look, the less it seems like I'll be "upgrading".

It's just odd that in this car enthusiast forum, people post about the current front wheel drive 2 series and feel the great heresy of that car is the aesthetics.

I'm sorry guys, this is not a design forum. The atrocity is that it changes a RWD chassis for a FWD one. The aesthetics are also unfortunately, but I'm clear what I consider the bigger issue.

Maybe I'm in the wrong forum, and typed in 'designpost.com' instead of 'bimmerpost.com'.

Reminds me of the conversations of the G8X, soooo much concern about how it looks vs how it drives.

Bingo!

I honestly think that people actually think it's just a cool word to drop. Nothing like watching car videos where the guy over mentions:

Carbon roof
Carbon dash
Carbon spoiler
Carbon skirts
Carbon diffuser

And on and on and on. We get it. You have a massive carbon footprint.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, but the M2 is still going to be rear wheel drive. The 2 gran coupe is FWD

Indeed, And we are liking the looks just concerned about it being bigger, heavier, worse brakes, numb steering, etc.

I mean the photos posted of the regular 2 series

For sure the M2 will be RWD, it runs on a different platform

I did some digging and found a couple more leaks this time in black. Not sure if these are real or have been posted yet:

Also, here is a render that looks fairly accurate for the front but not so much on the side/arches:
