Red face New X1, but Headlights are too Dark

I just bought my X1 on Saturday and didn't get the headlight upgrade. I did talk to someone at the dealership today, however. And they said that it is possible to safely upgrade the bulbs to Sylvania Silver Star or something. He also said that they tend to burn out quickly.

Can anyone tell me what bulbs I should use and where to find them? Also, what would it cost to have a professional change the bulbs for me?

Thanks.

See owner's manual page 218 onwards for instructions. I've got the LED headlights. But judging by the manual, it should be a straightforward job.

Your low beam bulb is a 55 watts H7LL type. High beam is a 55 watts H7 bulb. Any other wattage, regardless of whether it's LED or halogen, may trigger an error and you'd have to recode your car to get rid of it.

There is also the risk of overheating if you use dodgy brands or higher wattage bulbs. And of course, you will need to check your local laws and regulations to see if using cooler colour bulbs is allowed. Bulbs cooler than 5000K, for example, may result in MOT failure here in the UK.

Thank you. I greatly appreciate the information. I think that Sylvania Silver Star or something might be interchangeable. I'll make sure to check. (And thank you for your service.)

The Sylvania Silver Star H7 will be fine. Fitted them to many cars.
Find they last about 1,5 years with heavy night use.

Would only fit Osram (Sylvania in USA) or Phillips.
They are the OEM suppliers.
You can even buy their upgraded bulbs from BMW, but at quite a premium over other sources.
