retrofit LED headlights

Hey guys I found an X1 that I wanted in estoril blue with M sport package but it comes with the halogen bulbs. I was wondering if it is possible to replace the halogens with the LED headlights? Is it a simple plug and play or is more involved? Thanks.

no it is not plug and play, not at all.
Google some pictures of F48 engine bay - you see 2 metal heatsinks on each side? those are for the LEDs (and their control unit),
it would be a very costly retrofit I reckon.

If you really wanted the LEDs (and I can highly recommend them) - look for another car.

You would need coding and wiring harnesses.

Also remember the LED light equiped cars have LED rear lights aswell. So not just the front are different.
Dont think you can code the front to LED without doing the rear aswell.

The headlights themselves are not cheap

The rears are not LED, they are standard halogen. Pretty disappointing tbh because the front LEDs didn't come cheap

The brake/fog/indicator bulbs are halogen. The actual rear lights when lowbeam and sidelights are on is an LED strip.

As above, when you get LED fronts you get LED light strips on the back, unlike with Halogens.

Full LED rear will be available with the facelift (LCI), just like most BMW models.

& then back to candle rear bulbs when the new model comes out. Bloody BMW just need to put up full LED rear lights like most are doing now & LEAVE THEM ON THE NEXT MODELS!!

Do like the LED rears on my F48 but the indicators / brake lights are rubbish

Ahh I stand corrected I just assumed they were all std bulbs... but it is real scrimping by BMW to not provide full LED rears when you've paid for the upgrade. In our last A Class standard lights were halogen all round and if you paid for Xenons you got full LED rears. This is the model BMW should have followed imho

Can't disagree with that Beast ... I've opted for the LED lights for my in production X1 sport and would really have expected a full set of LEDs all round for the 750 pay out.

Being a newbie to bimmers and also to buying a new car.... I've come to the conclusion that BMW must actually stand for "Break My Wallet"!

Tyger, you act really surprised that shit costs dearly with bimmers

actually the price for the LEDs ain't that bad if you compare it with non-premium brands that also do not come with active cornering and dynamic light modules.

I sure would like adaptive headlights, but these with the cornering - that is done for once with the actual head lights, not with fog lights as some may think - and the high beam assist do really shine. I simply love those lights, and now, when we got to that time (at least here) where you drive to work and it is still dark outside, and drive home - and it is already dark, I will really enjoy them every day.

Sorry as in rubbish that they are not full LED rear units. Mind, can't stand the 'Knight Rider' Aldi indicators so at least we don't have to suffer them.

I would have happily paid another £250 for a full LED package

Hey ,guys, bumping this thread up.
So has anyone done this retrofit? Looking for an F48 with a front end collision and it has broken headlights, but they are halogen, so will need to change them anyways. So would it be possible?
Don't need any answers about how expensive it is, just maybe anyone has done it and is it even possible and worth the time?

Thanks!

Led rearlights retrofit

Thanks for the information.

I must admit I'm feeling a bit lost. My Jan. 2017 X1 seems to have led headlights.

As for the tail lights, I am unsure....

Below are some pics.

If anyone could help me find out what type or rear units I have, this would be great because I'm going to swap the tail lights using a retrofit kit for pre-LCIs. The wiring differs depending on whether my X1 is equipped with halogen or leds, but the notice does not say whether this relates to the headlights or the rear lights!

My pre-LCI tailights have led strip and halogen bulbs...

Hi,

Just a quick update following conversion of the orange-looking pre-LCI tail lights to the Led LCI ones.

Here is the result:

And the bonus is that no coding was necessary!

Attached are the installation instructions the german BMW seller sent me.

You can easily get an English translation, in pdf format, using a tool such as onlinedoctranslator.com/en/
