Neat. Is the grey bumper trim custom made or did they resize the cut-outs? And what about the noise? Is it noticeably different?

They resize the cut-outs ! The sound is not changed. Its only for the looks.

It's about 2 hours work, and the total cost € 350,- (390,- Dollar) include the pipes with warranty !

That sounds quite reasonable. Can't imagine a similar price over here.

It looks really good. I´m looking forward to installing the right exhaust pipe in my 18d. Any ideas?

I love it. Thumbs up X 3

Did they remove the trim/bumper before cutting? Curious.

You need to remove the standard muffler (with 1 pipe), replace with a muffler with 2 pipes (X1 S2.0). Then you cut out 2 "holes" in the bumper/trim for the exhaust pipes. (total cost in Europe +/- 650 dollar)

No, they don't remove the trim/bumper...
( they cut out the holes with a handsaw and file )

Yes I know this, because I asked for the price of the exhaust at the bmw dealer. I was asking about a diy mod but I couldn´t find anything in the internet about this theme.

And some one thing, does the exhaust has an electronic valve that regulates the opening of the right pipe or I would only have to replace one exhaust with the other one?

That's a good question. That grey middle part is probably the only exterior feature that I never liked. It looks completely out of place and gets even uglier when it's dirty (which is all the damn time)!!

I considered vinyl wrapping the middle part to match the body colour. But didn't find anyone that could colour match near where I am. Not even BossDog.com, which are one of the biggest names down here.

It's possible that BMW have made a change to the xLine rear design. I was looking at the latest (July 2016) standard specification PDF and comparing it to the May 2016 (which I think mine was built against) and noticed this:

May 2016 - xLine - Rear bumper underbody protection in Black, Grey and Silver matt
July 2016 - xLine - Rear bumper underbody protection in Black and Silver matt

Haven't seen any pictures but that sounds like a possible change??

Only relevant search result for the part number (51127403396):

Comparison gif I just made of current grey vs body coloured vs black:

If it's an easy DIY, I might replace mine.

Go on, the current overuse of differing silvers on the lower rear is odd, almost like they ordered the wrong shade of silver for the part and got stuck with it.

Let us know how the replacement goes ( with a howto ), so we all know whether to do it!

BMW UK only has the grey version. My dealer did not know anything about an upcoming black version.

p.s. apologies for hijacking your post like this, hart4bmw. No more bumper talk. Only exhaust talk. Promise.

The rear bumper underbody protection in black looks great! I would install it on my Sports Line if we could buy it here in Germany

I like the idea of the twin outlets per pipe, however the performance would also have to compliment the looks.
When BMW release a M chip mod for the 25i (expected to be 285kw v 170kw) to compete with GLA AMG I would do both mods, so that my X1 had the hoof to match the look

Did anyone install the rear bumper underbody protection in black (see the gif or link to turnermotorsport above) in the mean time?
