The seats in the F48 are definitely more snug-fitting than in an F30. We have an F30 MSport and the seats are actually a bit wide for us. I'm slim build/ skinny, 5'8", 140lbs. The seats in the F48's that we tested definitely "hold" me better, so if you're slim, you'll love the seats...
You calling me fat? 😉 I tried to upload a pic from my phone but the resolution was too high. I need to figure another way to do it. Happy New Year!
lol you fatty. Just kidding! That wasn't my intention... Just an observation that the sport seats I've sat in in the F48's fit me like a glove (so wanted to provide a body size reference). I love the "snugness"! My Dad wanted to see what my wife and I had ordered, so took him to the dealer last week and even though he is only slightly bigger than myself, he felt the seats were snug (but loved the car in all other respects), so it is personal preference in the end.

Great, now I am hungry. The sport seats are great if you don't mind paying for the m body kit to get them. My seats aren't that bad after about 1500 miles but I am thinking of having some leg extensions made sort of like the bolsters on the sport seats.

I didn't think the M-Sport seats were a big improvement over the regular seats. I was actually quite disappointed. The thigh support seems like it was designed for a small child because it doesn't span the entire front edge. It only spans the central portion so my thighs felt like they were half off and half on. Plus, the side bolsters were pressing against try sides a little too much.

Them darn seats are the only thing that's preventing me pulling the trigger on an X1 :-(

I read the manual prior to delivery and wanted to enable the digital compass in the rearview mirror. In the manual is said there would be a little switch on the underside of the mirror that I could poke with a paperclip type tool to enable it.

However, on delivery day, the delivery specialist said that the digital compass could not be enabled (there was no switch hole on the underside of my mirror either). I thought it was because I had Navi Plus and only non Navi vehicles had that option (the reviews I had seen online showing Navi with the digital compass I decided were HEA or Euro spec vehicles).

However, I just saw this thread and in the OP, the pic clearly shows the Navi with the digital compass in a North American vehicle. Can somebody shed some light on this please? Thanks.

I have an X1 and I am really regretting it to be honest, 100% due to the seats. I am a fit person, just fairly tall with long legs. The lack of support from the seats completely ruins the drive unless you are on a open highway. I have heard the typical "but I'm tall and think the seats are fine" argument. Well, if you have long legs it's not fine. I'm talking 34-36" inseam. Upper body height is fine, that's a non issue.

Bummed to hear the Sport seats don't solve this. I was going to get the sport seats custom installed. If they are gimped too I am possibly getting rid of this car. One thing I noticed is that literally every demo X1 in reviews has what look like the sport or bigger seats. So that will hide this issue from the consumers like it did to me. It's not something you can suss on a test drive. After specing the car out to 45K+ with "tech, premium and Luxury" packages, I really did not expect this uncomfortable outcome.

Edit - I feel bad for sounding so negative. The car does look great and I'd love it if I could fit it. To be clear to researchers - I think it's going to be rare cases that it doesn't fit, I have quite long legs.

Well I have the sport seat option specified when I ordered my X1, I also have a 34 inside leg measurement, find the seats very comfortable, took a while to get them adjusted.
Tried an X1 with standard seat before purchase to see if the extra money for the sports seats would be a worth while option. As far as I am concerned they certainly are money well spent.

There's been a lot of commentary about the standard seats being too short, even for someone of average height. Maybe they work ok in a MINI, but not in something where you sit more upright. Sports seats are pretty much mandatory, in my opinion.

It's horses for courses, I think. The shortness of the standard seat cushions was the only reason I could buy the car!

At 5' 3" my better half could not get on with the sports seats at all, as even with the bolster fully retracted the seats were far too long for her. Strange, as not a problem with most other makes we tried, nor our previous VWs.

Fortunately, at 6' 1" with 33" inside leg, I also find the standard seats good: whilst initially they feel too narrow, I have no aches or pains after 4 hours or more non-stop.

I agree with this. At first I was very concerned about the seats but have had no pain or discomfort after many 2+ hour trips. They still noticeably short but I can honestly say that body has not suffered as a result.

My wife (maybe 5' 4" or 5' 5") would also be the primary user of the car so I had the same worry. As there were no X1 sports seats in the country yet when we were trying out the cars, we asked to try out a 2 Series Active Tourer with sports seats as I was worried the leading edge of the bolster painfully pushing against the back of her knee joints. Fortunately, it was all ok so we pushed ahead with sports seats.

The sports seats were nice in the demonstrator that my wife and I drove, I will not have a car without them as I just cant get comfortable without the additional thigh support. However the front edge is very sharp and not contoured like on my F10, this was digging into the back of my wife's knees slightly but I found by getting her to adjust the angle of the seat so that it tipped forward more than where it was set for me seemed to solve the issue.

I wish I had known of this "sports seats" sizing issue before i started to look at bmw. I hadn't realized there would be a difference in seat size, it's not clear when it's part of a package in the USA. Also that sport package includes all the trim changes and it's the only way to get them. I guess you have to know to get sport seats by already going through this. I lever imagined the "Luxury" seats with leather and lumbar options would be small?

About comfort - like i said it's fine on highways and smooth roads, but on bumpy terrain or really winding roads it's (standard seats) not a very stable seating platform when you have long legs. So you end up doing the stabilizing with hip and back muscles.

And for those who are short or have short legs - that's great this should be an awesome seat for you. They should make like three base sizes and let us choose. The ergonomics of a chair you sit in and drive for hours is important and one size does not fit all!

The X1 sport seats are marginal at best, are very short and provide poor support. They are far from the sport seats used in other BMW models. A dissapointment for sure. This is an entry level BMW based on the Mini and it is very apparent. I am beginning to call it the 'almost BMW.'

I think people are forgetting that this is a small BMW packaged for space... Have you looked at the rear legroom in a Evoque or A3? I found the sports seats comfortable, with good back and thigh support despite them being small. They seem fine for my body size, I'm 5'11" and 90kg. My F11 seats are nicer but that is a whole different class of vehicle and I accept there will be differences.

However will come back to you when the car is delivered and I have spent a continuous couple of hours behind the wheel...

Well said, sir. The new X1 is a terrific overall package and although it might be front wheel drive biased and the fronts seats for some are not great, this car trumps it's competitors. It's quick, has a high quality interior, and a gets good gas mileage. It's doing everything it is supposed to. The sales numbers prove that the car is great success for BMW.

In terms of "not so great", what did you expect?
It's a tall station wagon with a 4 cylinder turbo engine intended to haul kids/stuff around town.

Our Z3 is much smaller with much less space is 18 years old yet has better seats and is more comfortable on long drives than our 2016 X1 with sport seats. Also checked today and as someone else said the extension on the sport seats is not wide enough and does not support the entire thigh which on long drives causes pressure points. Bottom line...the seats suck.

It's a BMW, not a Ford Escape so in my eyes, I always expect more from BMW being more than just a people mover. It should be a people pleaser. The engine has very refined feel to it with very smooth power delivery but I wasn't wild about the engine sound. The other BMW 2.0t uses active sound design and this one does not. I tried to code the car to add a bit more sound but could not get any enhanced sound like I could from my 328i.

Thanks for this Vogit. I have X1 on order with Standard Seats for exactly the same reason (5' 3" and 6' 1/2" 32" leg). My wife did not like the sports seats at all and we test drove X1 with standard seats and thought they were fine. With so many negative comments I was begining to think I had made a mistake so I am glad you posted this.

Hi all: w/r to the seats then... Would you chose cloth but sport seats or leather regular seats??

I chose leather regular seats over sport seat. Just like other people have mentioned above, the X1 sport seat does not provide the same level of support as sport seats offered in other BMW models i.e. 3/5 series or X5.

By the look of it, the X1 sport seat has thinner cushion material than other "regular" bmw sport seats.

I think the regular seat is perfect for ladies. My X1 is normally used by my wife, she is 5'3" and she really loves the seat. For me I am 6', the regular seat is not perfect, but at least I don't get any back pain after long distance driving, so I guess the seat is good enough.

The sport seats are perfect for me !
I'am 190cm (6'2") tall & weight 90 kg (198 lbs),
and my long legs are perfectly supported by the seat extender.
The sport seats are not soft but sit very well.
You must ensure that the seat is properly adjusted.
(The normal chairs did not feel bad , but my body is not supported)
Go for the sport seats !!
