Great, now I am hungry. The sport seats are great if you don't mind paying for the m body kit to get them. My seats aren't that bad after about 1500 miles but I am thinking of having some leg extensions made sort of like the bolsters on the sport seats.

I didn't think the M-Sport seats were a big improvement over the regular seats. I was actually quite disappointed. The thigh support seems like it was designed for a small child because it doesn't span the entire front edge. It only spans the central portion so my thighs felt like they were half off and half on. Plus, the side bolsters were pressing against try sides a little too much.
Them darn seats are the only thing that's preventing me pulling the trigger on an X1 :-( |

I read the manual prior to delivery and wanted to enable the digital compass in the rearview mirror. In the manual is said there would be a little switch on the underside of the mirror that I could poke with a paperclip type tool to enable it. However, on delivery day, the delivery specialist said that the digital compass could not be enabled (there was no switch hole on the underside of my mirror either). I thought it was because I had Navi Plus and only non Navi vehicles had that option (the reviews I had seen online showing Navi with the digital compass I decided were HEA or Euro spec vehicles). However, I just saw this thread and in the OP, the pic clearly shows the Navi with the digital compass in a North American vehicle. Can somebody shed some light on this please? Thanks. |

I have an X1 and I am really regretting it to be honest, 100% due to the seats. I am a fit person, just fairly tall with long legs. The lack of support from the seats completely ruins the drive unless you are on a open highway. I have heard the typical "but I'm tall and think the seats are fine" argument. Well, if you have long legs it's not fine. I'm talking 34-36" inseam. Upper body height is fine, that's a non issue.
Bummed to hear the Sport seats don't solve this. I was going to get the sport seats custom installed. If they are gimped too I am possibly getting rid of this car. One thing I noticed is that literally every demo X1 in reviews has what look like the sport or bigger seats. So that will hide this issue from the consumers like it did to me. It's not something you can suss on a test drive. After specing the car out to 45K+ with "tech, premium and Luxury" packages, I really did not expect this uncomfortable outcome. Edit - I feel bad for sounding so negative. The car does look great and I'd love it if I could fit it. To be clear to researchers - I think it's going to be rare cases that it doesn't fit, I have quite long legs. Last edited by IBX1; 03-13-2016 at 12:39 PM.. |

Tried an X1 with standard seat before purchase to see if the extra money for the sports seats would be a worth while option. As far as I am concerned they certainly are money well spent. |

There's been a lot of commentary about the standard seats being too short, even for someone of average height. Maybe they work ok in a MINI, but not in something where you sit more upright. Sports seats are pretty much mandatory, in my opinion.

It's horses for courses, I think. The shortness of the standard seat cushions was the only reason I could buy the car!
At 5' 3" my better half could not get on with the sports seats at all, as even with the bolster fully retracted the seats were far too long for her. Strange, as not a problem with most other makes we tried, nor our previous VWs. Fortunately, at 6' 1" with 33" inside leg, I also find the standard seats good: whilst initially they feel too narrow, I have no aches or pains after 4 hours or more non-stop. |

My wife (maybe 5' 4" or 5' 5") would also be the primary user of the car so I had the same worry. As there were no X1 sports seats in the country yet when we were trying out the cars, we asked to try out a 2 Series Active Tourer with sports seats as I was worried the leading edge of the bolster painfully pushing against the back of her knee joints. Fortunately, it was all ok so we pushed ahead with sports seats.

I wish I had known of this "sports seats" sizing issue before i started to look at bmw. I hadn't realized there would be a difference in seat size, it's not clear when it's part of a package in the USA. Also that sport package includes all the trim changes and it's the only way to get them. I guess you have to know to get sport seats by already going through this. I lever imagined the "Luxury" seats with leather and lumbar options would be small?
About comfort - like i said it's fine on highways and smooth roads, but on bumpy terrain or really winding roads it's (standard seats) not a very stable seating platform when you have long legs. So you end up doing the stabilizing with hip and back muscles. And for those who are short or have short legs - that's great this should be an awesome seat for you. They should make like three base sizes and let us choose. The ergonomics of a chair you sit in and drive for hours is important and one size does not fit all! |

The X1 sport seats are marginal at best, are very short and provide poor support. They are far from the sport seats used in other BMW models. A dissapointment for sure. This is an entry level BMW based on the Mini and it is very apparent. I am beginning to call it the 'almost BMW.'

I think people are forgetting that this is a small BMW packaged for space... Have you looked at the rear legroom in a Evoque or A3? I found the sports seats comfortable, with good back and thigh support despite them being small. They seem fine for my body size, I'm 5'11" and 90kg. My F11 seats are nicer but that is a whole different class of vehicle and I accept there will be differences.
However will come back to you when the car is delivered and I have spent a continuous couple of hours behind the wheel...

It's a BMW, not a Ford Escape so in my eyes, I always expect more from BMW being more than just a people mover. It should be a people pleaser. The engine has very refined feel to it with very smooth power delivery but I wasn't wild about the engine sound. The other BMW 2.0t uses active sound design and this one does not. I tried to code the car to add a bit more sound but could not get any enhanced sound like I could from my 328i.

I chose leather regular seats over sport seat. Just like other people have mentioned above, the X1 sport seat does not provide the same level of support as sport seats offered in other BMW models i.e. 3/5 series or X5.
By the look of it, the X1 sport seat has thinner cushion material than other "regular" bmw sport seats. I think the regular seat is perfect for ladies. My X1 is normally used by my wife, she is 5'3" and she really loves the seat. For me I am 6', the regular seat is not perfect, but at least I don't get any back pain after long distance driving, so I guess the seat is good enough. |

The sport seats are perfect for me !
I'am 190cm (6'2") tall & weight 90 kg (198 lbs), and my long legs are perfectly supported by the seat extender. The sport seats are not soft but sit very well. You must ensure that the seat is properly adjusted. (The normal chairs did not feel bad , but my body is not supported) Go for the sport seats !! |
