I'm guessing it will have the detuned 4.0 from the GT3 (which is NOT the 4.0 in the 718 GT4).
Start at $15k below the 991.2GT3 MSRP to keep positioning intact, but with options etc. you're looking at a $165k-$175k average sticker. Likely somewhat limited, to keep people buying the GT4 (non RS) who can't get their hands on an RS. Interesting thing about the GT4 RS (if above is accurate, which it may not be) is this: For the same price would you rather have a GT4 RS or GT3? Assuming the GT4 RS has the same 4.0 but detuned, I'd probably still go GT3 for the sheer power/experience and since a 911 is a 911 but the Cayman platform has caught up as the arguably more driver-focused car with it's mid-engine and the 911s get bigger and bigger. It would honestly be a tough call for me...luckily I have a 992 GT3 RS deposit down that should keep my temptation at bay for the next couple of years. Now if Porsche throws us a total curve-ball and this is the same engine as the GT4 but turbo-charged then it's a whole different story but I don't think that's what we'll see here.

its nice.
but the caymans/boxsters definitely look a step below the 911 when you see them on the street. Would definitely take a regular gt3 over any cayman. The performance difference between this and a gt3 would probably be negligible. its really just the difference of if you want an MR or RR layout at that point.

I love the GT4, but there's nothing like the rear traction of a 911. It's a hoot. I'm sure the GT4 will be a land missle, but I don't know any of the GT3 guys in my local PCA chapter looking to swap into a GT4. Hell, they're mostly more excited about adding a cheap to run C8 to the lineup than going into a GT4 RS, for the most part...

True, there are several "1LE"s, including 6 and 4 cyl versions. ZL1 1LE is GT3-fast around a track. The SS 1LE edges out a GT4 in most track times and situations. 1LE is a track monster. There are some good drivers videos using the on board system on both the SS and ZL1 versions.

They need to find more applications for the new 4.0 engine to spread the development costs out. Plus it would be more cost effective to just tweak the tune a bit for an engine already mated to the Cayman layout. It also follows Porsche model philosophy. GT3 & GT3RS same engine base GT4 & GT4RS likely the same engine base |

It's getting easier these days, but historically you're correct. Porsche sold more GT cars last year than the other 911 models combined, so they're not nearly as rare as they used to be... but still not easy to get one, especially early in the lifecycle.
