Ok, at your next driving lesson, let’s work on the principle of Drive= forward and Reverse = backwards!

I've had my X1 with the 'new' gear shift selector for over a month and I'm still not used to it. I 1st push an unlock button, then move it forwards to go backwards, then pull it backwards to go forwards. Decades of more intuitive operation are still in my muscle memory.

What was also scary were the number of people standing in front of the vehicle that could have been run-over if the driver actually moved forward instead of backwards into the water.

It's the wipers turning on while in the water...

Possibly the Rain sensor turned the wipers on?
