Winter Rims bolt pattern
Hi folks,
I am trying to get winter tires for my X1. My factory tires are the performance ones with 19 inch rim. I wanted to down size to 17 inch. However I found that 2016 X1 was not using BMW's original bolt pattern-5 x 120. currently, it's 5x112, which is the same as Audi. I tried to get replica rims. The normal BMW replicas wont fit since 2016 X1 changed its bolt pattern. But when I ordered Audi rims, I found the bolts are different, so Audi rims dont fit either. Do you guys have recommandations on the rims? I am in Canada, the winter is so......anyone in Canada put the winter tires on already? can you please suggest where you got them? thank you so much. |

Hi Jing. I purchased rims and tires last week at Canadian tire. I bought the Momo Win 2 with xIce3 tires. The rims are 7.5x18 (at least for my car) and the bolt pattern is 5x112. The center bore is 66.6 for the X1, but the Momo's (and most aftermarket rims) are larger, however they come with a center ring that ensures a perfect fit. It took a little bit of time to get the right rims since CT (and many other places) have the incorrect 5x120 size in their computers. If you go to the location across from Vaughan Mills and speak to Vic or the manager Rob, they'll be able to help you since we spend a couple of hours trying rims on my X1 before we figured it out.

From Canada
I just purchased O.Z MSW Type 27 rims. 18 x7.5 5x112 ET48. Centering ring to fit the center bore. Blizzak WS80. Proper tapered bolts as well. Hand delivered today to my house. Looks similar to my 19" BMW Sport rims. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ent&tab=wheels Only 2 tone color winter proof rims I can find also. |

MB and Audi rims
Will MB or Audi 5x112 66.56 bore rims fit the F48 ? I understand F48 uses 66.6 bore. It will give us a lot more options.
Whats the offset range without causing any rubbing problem ? |

Yes standard Audi wheels that use the 66.1 mm hub will work just fine as they are also 5x112. The only difference here is that Audi uses a 14x1.5 bolt, while BMW uses a 14x1.25 bolt. Length and seat is still dependent on wheels and spacers (if any).

Yes the reason the Audi bolts didn't fit is the pitch (14x1.5 vs 14x1.25). There is no reason the wheels wouldn't fit when reusing the F48 stock bolts.
As far as offsets I measured the top of the fender and outer rim edge. In stock 18x7.5 ET51 there is 27mm front and 32mm rear to make the rims flush. You need to add the difference in width because most aftermarket rims will be wider. Long story short. 8 inch wide rim with ET30 is going to be flush with the top but it will look like they are poking out because the fender gets narrower at the bottom. 8 inch with ET35 or 8.5 inch ET40 will look great (about 1 inch wider than stock). |

Snagged a set of Mini Cosmos (17X7 54mm offset) wheels off Craig's List for $200 flawless and black...won't show brake dust so I don't have winter wheel washing duties as often. You have to run 10mm spacers in front to clear larger BMW brake calipers...but even with the $100 for a set of ECS spacers and longer lug bolts...$300 all in for a set of stylish winter wheels.. Better than trashing a $500 OEM BMW wheel! |

Great info spitpilot
If anyone is doing spacers I would suggest getting 5mm thicker for the rear. It doesn't really affect handling and it looks better. I'm running 15mm front 20mm rear with stock 18 inch rims and 225/50 winter tires and it looks perfect. |

S--t, I thought I could use my winter wheels from X4 to upcoming X2 M35i. Due to mild winters, I often use my 9000 Turbo with non-studded tyres, so X4 studded tyres are fresh.

Thanks for all the great info.
Logic tells me to get 17" for winter, but I am afraid it might look too small. Will 18" not as safe. I live in the city, street will be plowed after each snow fall. Please post your 17" set up. |

The diameter doesn't make much difference for winter performance. You just don't want them to be too wide. By design any winter tire is going to have narrower tread section so stock 225/50/18 will work well. On rims 7 or 7.5 inches wide you can do 205/55/18.

I can't stand the sunken look of the oem 18 inch wheels. This is a simpler solution than a new set of wheels. |
