Is this ticking normal?
Here for your thoughts - MY16, 17K miles.
We drive it roughly 100 miles per week, recently wifey complained about a ticking noise coming from the engine bay and that is what led me to take this video - this level of ticking is doom on my M engine (thinking bent rods, etc.). The noise seems to be coming from the left of the engine (my left looking at the engine). This morning I let it warm up for 3-4 minutes, backed up around 12 ft in the driveway, turned off A/C and radio, put it in park and let it idle while I opened the hood and heard this ticking noise. I went in and got in my phone (~5 minutes) and the noise persisted. Is this normal - video attached? I have no tune or codes on the car.

Sounds like normal GDI ticking to me. I find the X1 normally pretty loud at start up and it does settle down somewhat. But with the hood-up the GDI ticking can get loud.

That is normal for a Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine.

Pretty standard for this engine when cold/cool. It's the injection system
