Aftermarket Wheel Fitment HELP NEEDED!
Hello, as I am new to the wheel and tire world for my 2016 x1 I am curious as to if I could run this wheel and tire setup.
Current Setup(stock): 225/50/r18 Width: 7.5 Offset: 40 Potential Setup: 245/40/18 Width: 8.5 Offset: 35 Im buying the rims including tires off facebook marketplace so its kind of a package deal. I want to know if there would be any mechanical issues with this setup as well. Thanks for the help. Cheers Last edited by kros6969; 03-30-2020 at 12:40 AM.. |

While I'm not sure about the legalities of where you are, the change in diameter will knock about 2.5mph off your true speed vs the speedometer, so if you were actually doing 55 when your speedo read 60 previously, with the new setup it would be 52.5 to that same reading of 60, so if the rules where you are allow such a change (they don't where I am, as the diameter change is beyond maximum allowable) you might want to consider getting a speedo re-calibration done

Changing wheels and sizes needs to be carefully considered. There can also be an impact on your motor insurance. As well as my standard wheels, I also have a set of BMW winter 17 inch winter wheels. The wheel dimensions 6.5Jx17. This takes a tyre size 205/60R17 93H for standard tyres.
BMW offer alternatives only for run flat as below: 7.5Jx17 Tyre size 225/55R17 97H Or 7.5Jx18 Tyre size 225/50R18 95H Hope this helps. |

Here in the states they do not really check, but the "acceptable" when changing between winter and summer is under 5% difference.. which this one is 4.44% different which is really pushing it in my opinion. As for fitment as calculated by a website that I like willtheyfit.com
"Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 7.7mm closer to the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 17.7mm more than before." So when I look at the car it will all definitely clear without rubbing. 17.7mm outwards will make the tires pretty darned close in the front to flush with the fenders, and rears a little more wiggle room. Technically if the tires exceed the body of the car it would be illegal, but chances here of that being complained about is almost zero (it's certainly not that extreme). Still.. I would find at least tires that fit better which would be 245/45/18 which would be almost exact. Or.. 235/45/18 ... the list can go on, but all would be closer to diameter than the current one you're looking at. Check out that website and start plugging in the numbers! |
