why would you think BMW could fit a 3.0l 6 in a FWD platform? Use a wee bit of common sense.
Why would BMW go front wheel drive on a "m performance" branded car. The x1 used the 3.0l on a xdrive plateform, and it was a great setup. BMW is based off "The Ultimate Driving Machine" and releases like this make it seem like there not appealing to that at all, especially using there M Performance brand. I don't doubt the car would be a good car, but it could be so much better..
The previous X1 (E84) was based off the E91 chassis. So a RWD chassis that can accommodate a longitudinally mounted engine. The current X1 (F48) is a XKL Chassis (FWD) shared with the MINI brand. Hence why there is no way to fit a longitudinally mounted engine.

The GTI/Golf R is regarded as the best hot hatch out there. Great things can be done with a properly tuned FWD setup.

They stopped selling X1's with the N55 in 2015, so I don't get the disappointment - you've had three years to make peace with the M35i being a 2.0L. It hasn't been a secret, we've known for years this is what it was going to be. It does get the 8-speed you wanted, though it's an Aisin unit, not ZF.
The 3.0l i6 has always been BMWs goldilocks engine, it's arguably the best engine BMWs produced, and to this day they always market the big brother of a series as the X35i/X40i with the 3.0l. Including the new X3 M40i comes with it. Why would I be wrong to assume the 3.0l would be in order for this car aswell.
The new models (7er, 6er, 5er, X3/X4/X5) are all built off the RWD GKL platform. That's how they can keep the straight 6. The X1/X2 are entry level BMW's competing with Audi and MBZ for the price point. And the market is showing hot SUV's are blowing up.

I see where your coming from, maybe I just hate to see the i6 go away. I hear M Performance, and my head rings with i6. I hope to see this succeed but I can't stomach it up, I have a feeling a lot of BMW performance following fellas won't be able to either.

I'm hoping your reference to the evoque ends in the personality/ looks department because when it comes to technology LR may be the worst brand in terms of technology glitches and general bad user experiences.

Because BMW said from day one that engine was incompatible with transverse mounting. The old X1 drove well but was too small inside to be competitive today. The new X1 is pretty universally regarded as being the best vehicle in its class. If people don't like FWD based vehicles with transversely mounted engines, that's ok, those people are just going to dislike every car in this class, and should get something not in this class.

I know. I was talking about presence and looks. BMW are far more reliable than any tata products. Besides Evoque is basicly a Ford Kuga underneath. I feel just that X2 is a boring FWD overpriced car, that could've been so much more

I think they look great...but they definitely don't look like the bolstering is as good as the F80/2/3 seats. Personally, I think the thigh extender sticks out too much in retracted position. Other than that, I like them.

Does it not strike you as odd that the small, RWD car is well reviewed? Aka, what the 3er used to be?

Yes, BMW can still make a "normal", non-M car that is good to drive and better than the competition.

But they don't pack it into the base model DNA like they once did - they created the M performance line to charge more for what they used to give at the entry level. They were just late to the party, say, compared to Audi.

I like what I see. My X1 is good but the handling and power delivery come up short. If this model significantly improves both I will be in the market for one. Please offer some decent colors. I expect pricing in the 50’s, my mid optioned X1 was 40 grand.

This news hit me like a ton of bricks. I do want. What's the MPG? I guess i'll have to break out the calculator. If it can do great MPG while cruising with 300hp then that would be awesome.

Jesus Christ, you people will complain about ANYTHING. M2 didn't have special seats? COMPLAIN. New models DO come with special seats? COMPLAIN.

I think the seats do look great, but I think I'd miss the ability to adjust the headrest forward. Not a deal breaker by any means... Just sayin'
