I circulated a petition among my own household to put a ballot initiative to allow up to 500 acres on greenhouse cannabis to be grown as a demonstration project in unincorporated Ventura county. Got 4 signatures!!

I have Siri set up to only be activated by button press, not by the "Hey Siri" wake word or by lifting my wrist. Last thing I want is for someone to put a megaphone up to one of my windows and say "hey siri, unlock the front door" when I'm not home.

I did pick up an Echo Dot with Alexa when they were on Black Friday sale a few years ago, solely to evaluate the platform from a developer's perspective. It had a few different wake words to choose from, so I picked "computer" instead of "Alexa" to keep TV shows from ordering me doll houses. Problem was that I could no longer watch Star Trek, since the Enterprise also used "computer" as its wake word. One episode enabled self-destruct mode, where Alexa started rambling a news article until I yanked the power and sent Alexa to meet HAL after only three days.

Anyway, since I have both "day" and "night" Apple Watches and my DW has one as well, I have all of the home automations set up to be triggered by Siri on our watches.....

Smart.

I still have the Hey Siri wake words active because I primarily use it to set timers while cooking and it’s helpful to be able to do it hands free, but that’s also why I haven’t gone as far as smart locks. Worst case, someone could mess with the lights off and on. Opening the garage door triggers an alert so not too much risk there either. Big fan of reminder alerts when the garage door is open longer than 15 minutes too.

I'm learning to shoot video...I thought photography was a rather expensive career, video is yet another rabbit hole.

We have a neighbor who loves to cook. She has been bringing us decadent goodies about twice a week. Today we hear there are triple chocolate scones on their way. Ooog.

Finally broke down and tempted fate by riding outside today. Nice easy 21 mile spin. Felt good.

We came to our friends beach house in Florida and let me update y'all on how the panhandle is doing. Almost no masks anywhere. The workers at the grocery store had them but that's it. We've eaten out at 2 restaurants open air and it's been so weird because we haven't done that in a month and a half. The beach was completely crowded.

We had planned on having a local contractor gut and reconfigure both our bathrooms this spring. That plan went out the window when we both had to start WFH. Hard to do work and participate in online meetings when there is major construction going on a few feet away.

Alice’s is open for take out and bathroom breaks (porta-potties). Wasn’t as crowded as a normal weekend, but pretty close.

Coast full of beaches and turnouts closed with no parking signs. LEO was out and about and hassling people, but as long as you kept moving they weren’t citing anyone or anything.

As part of rebuilding my home office, I ordered a new desk through Home Depot. Nearly a month after I ordered it, it finally arrived today. It comes in two boxes, one of which is a pre-built file cabinet section. The second box is the desk top and a shelf/storage unit. I ordered the black version. Both boxes have a check mark next to the black color option. But of course the file cabinet section is white. So now I've been on hold with their customer support for 40 minutes. Still holding.

I see a can of black spray paint in my future.

Had to get a mass state inspection sticker, felt weird putting a front plate on...

Edit: my son (might've) clipped off the zip ties as soon as I got the new sticker?!?
