X1 vs X2 Handling
So my 2016 X1 is in the shop for brakes and I got a 2020 X2 as a loaner. Wow this thing is tight and handles a lot more like my old e46 ZHP. Just looks like crap in far too many ways for me....sorry.
Given its new and my X1 has 55k on it. I also have the "sport suspension" but not the adaptive dampers. 19" stock wheels. I'm not going coilovers. I went down that tail chasing rabbit hole in my Subaru STI. Figure its probably Bilstein B6 or Koni time.... Opinions? |

Yeah, I agree regarding the X2. I like the X4 more than the X2 but I find that the rear of the previous generation X4 was nicer. They should've kept the rear and updated only the front. I have an X1 and a 2012 Infiniti G37xS Coupe in Red, never winter driven with only 86K Kms or 56K miles. It's been really well maintained and I have a lot of mods on her both inside the cabin and suspension, wheels, motor, exhaust dyno tuning etc. I'm thinking that next year I will sell her while she's still worth something and get the new 2 M235 Coupe or the M2 Coupe, the new design is really very nice and the photos don't do justice. You need to see it up close. So depending on the deal it will be one or the other. My car will be close to 10 years old. But then there's the nostalgic side of me that says it's nice and keep her as a classic design. I looked at maybe swapping her for a used GTR but used ones are insanely expensive and you don't know if the owner beat to within one inch of it's life. The low mileage ones are like $70K for a 2016 - 2017. Porsche 911 are very good sports cars and yet they really depreciate. A similar 2016 Carrera S Chrono can be purchased for around $50K with low mileage if you're lucky and the person is desperate. But then there's the classic argument that you bu new or relatively new with a warranty. If you thought $1K for a complete 4 wheel brake job to change all 4 rotors and pads and service the calipers was expensive, a brake job on a GTR is $3.5K and that's on the low side if you shop around!

I wonder if your X1 suspension has taken a beating.. or maybe it's the tires? I feel that the difference between "handling" and "road feel" is pretty on par between our '16 x1 msport, and my '19 x2 m35i. I'm comparing runflats to runflats, and winter tires to winter tires. I say they feel the same if you can ignore the exhaust and visibility difference that is. When I was test driving a regular X2 back in the day when the X1 was in for service I also could not say that there was any difference (they wanted me to turn in the lease early back in the day).
There are certainly different visual cues of the X2 vs the X1, but they are so similar in look. At first I didn't like the X2, but the look has grown on me fast. It's different enough and I don't even notice the C pillar badge. I certainly wouldn't have bothered with it if there was no m35i variant though, I probably would have gotten an x3 m340i Although for a personal car I actually feel the X3's have gotten pretty big and bloated (I needed something higher from the ground with a bad back, originally was looking at a 440i or m235/240i) |

Yes it’s kind of ridiculous the difference...probably time for new struts. Everything seems bloated these days. Subaru’s have gotten huge. My x1 is as big as the older x3 |
