M3 boot lip spoiler on E92 SE Coupe

Anyone fitted the M3 boot lip spolier to an SE Coupe, does it look OK or do you need the M Sport model for it to look right. also do you buy replica or genuine and what should I expect to pay. Finally how does it attach to the car, it is bolted or stuck on ?

Another mod I like the look of is the aero front bumper extensions, hoepfully I am using the correct description. Help the look of the SE model I reckon. Again whats the best option for these and prices?

Thanks

Have a look at my garage, I've got the M3 bootlip and Aero splitter.

From memory, the spoiler was about £100 (painted) and I stuck it on with 'no more nails' 50kg tape (from homebase). Mine came from SSDD (just google it). Personally, I wouldn't put an M badge on.

Details on the splitter:

Purchased this from c3bmw and had it painted and fitted locally.

Hope this helps.

I have just fitted a genuine M3 rear spoiler. Bought it from Chris O'Dea at BMW Blackpool, he does discounts for forum members.

See the sticky.

I paid £180 this included genuine spoiler, painting, fitting kit and postage.

The fitting kit is a roll of BMW tape (much like 3M I imagine) and two tapered pieces that fit on each end.

Easy to fit and well worth it.

Originally i was very sceptical about this spoiler looking good on a ''clean lined'' SE.

Having seen it on two mates cars (ED's being one) it does look very good and not out of place at all.

Had a look on the SSDD website, they have the M3 lip painted for £90 which is half the price of the original mentioned above. While I would be happy to save the money I would also be happy to spend the extra if the genuine article is worth the extra, is there any noticeable difference or anything I should be aware of.

I guess its personal preference, my decision was based on the fact that;

1) The insurance premium for the car remained the same with a genuine BMW spoiler fitted otherwise it would increase by £150!!

2) The RRP on the car is well over £30k so could not see the point in fitting a possible inferior part for the sake of saving £90.

3) I have piece of mind that its a BMW part so will fit perfectly and will be made to a high standard and is worry free.

totally agree with all the reasons for going genuine. I reckon if I went for a replica I would always feel some tiny thing was wrong with it and wish i had bought the real thing.

Is the paint finish from Blackpool BMW a good job?
I have read elsewhere BMW dealers will not sell this item unless you have an M3, is this a common experience, I haven't yet asked my dealer but guess I should to see what they say.

Normally main dealers refuse to supply unless you have a chassis number, Chris at Blackpool is OK and will supply.

Paint job is great, no problem

What colour is your car?

Depends on your dealer, yes they will require a M3 chassis number, however my dealer ordered one , and I picked it up the following day. Cost around £120.00ish unpainted.

I would have ordered it from Teddy @ SSDD, but there was a good reason why I did'nt and it had nothing to do with the quality or the replication.

I wanted it the next day

My local dealer has no probs ordering without chassis number, as for Teddy yep takes few days but in my case it was couple of days, just got to get the tape to fit it now

One of the best mods you can do in my opinion. Should have left the factory with one in the first place.

Agree its a pain in the "£%$, my E46 Mtech had the spoiler so why is it the MTechs now dont have it apart from the M3.

Thats the plan I just hope its 3rd time lucky. Last two times I remapped a car I had problems. My Leon TDI blew a turbo, my E46 after 6 months of remapped started smoking like mad, so I just hope this time its better,

Most likley will go for evolve map as I like the fact you can put back to stock easily. Just crossed 5K on the clock so engine should be ready for it as well . Got a pipercross panel filter on the way so just case of getting down to luton

I had mine done at Evolve 177 to 215. Had it done with 1200 mile on the clock. Really quick and smooth now.

You are welcome to have a ride in mine to try before you buy, either way you wont be dissapointed.

Very close to M40 J3 Loudwater. Often go to Bracknell forest mountain biking. You are about 33 miles away so not far.

Get an original part, do it properly; your car is worth it.

Had a couple of replicas - returned them - rubbish!

PS I have a spare original 3 piece tape fitting kit if anyone is interested - cost a tenner from dealer!
