Had em on my last 2 cars. Both got fix-it tickets (it did cost to get the tint removed, because I was too lazy to do it myself). The story behind one of them is staggering. I'm 33, and my wife would shoot me if I posted her age.
My wife and son were driving her Black Charger at about 8 in the morning up the 15N. She was doing the speed limit (which, at that time, was about the flow of traffic, so she wasn't standing out). Officer came up behind her and pulled her over. Both the officer and his partner got out of their car and drew their guns. They approached her on the passenger side. One came up to the passenger front window, while the other stayed by the passenger side back window. She lowered the front window, and he requested she lower the back window. She did so, and my son looked at the cops and said "Hi Police Officers!". The cop at the back window looked at his partner, turned beet red, holstered his pistol, and walked back to the cruiser. We had 5% on the bank, 20% on the front (same as on my old 328). I'll be doing the same thing with my d, regardless. I know why I got stopped, and I intend to avoid that situation again (hint: never wave at a stationary motorcycle cop).

The lack of ability to see you well through the windshield, from a cop's point of view, is only going to piss him off.
Not something I'd be willing to deal with.

Since it's normally the largest window on your car, I'd say so. :P

I am not so big on the tint, especially because of different % at the front and rear...and the cops.
I was in my cousins car in the UK, he was driving a Golf GTI and he had a dark tint. He was pulled over and the idiot cop tried to peel off the tint...ruining the tint/window in the process. Needless to say, my cousin was furious (afterwards). |

Tinting the windshield is illegal in all states without a reason (ie doctor)...
I have 30% on the sides and back, and the windshield is tinted 50%... Remember the factory has a small amount of tint (about 7%) so whatever you choose, add 7% to it... |

I have a 2007 Toyota Tundra that has factory tint on the back 3 windows, I thought it would be cool to tint the fronts the same shade (for some reason I think 50%, maybe lighter)
I was driving down the New Westminster main street and was pulled over by a motorcycle Officer. He asked me to roll up the drivers window, pointed out the tint and said I had two options; 1- take a vehicle inspection ticket (which means they would check the vehicle bumper to bumper and before the vehicle can be released back on to the road whatever they found would have to be fixed, or 2- remove the tint right there, right now. Saying that he pulled out a scraper out of his vest pocket. I took option 2

This is just crazy, to think that there are tint shops out there willingly do the windshield knowing it's unlawfully and a safety hazard. Why do people go nut over dark tint just beyond me.

Not sure about the safety hazard part of it, but I know that I love the windshield tinted due to keeping the cabin of the car cool in the summer...
Yes it is illegal, unless you know people or are willing to pay cash for it, and not get a receipt |

If you have this significant of medical issues you should use sunglasses or not be able to drive. You are just asking for legal issues with that dark of tint on a windshield. You can get better quality tint (3M Crystalline) at 70% on your windshield and no one can tell it is tinted. The numbers on that tint however are better than 5% limo tint in terms of UV and heat blockage.

I have 50% HO on my windshield to keep the heat out.
I would suggest you get a pair of driving glasses with tint. Having prisms in your glasses isn't a legitimate medical reason to need 30% tint on your window IMHO. They bend light, not scatter it. |
