Fuel Consumption/ Ride Quality
Interesting to see the fuel consumption figures: my 20D has averaged 44.8 over 1563 miles measured fill to fill, with mixture of 200 mile motorway and short trips into town.
My main reason for sticking with diesel this time was to get a decent range between forced refuelling stops (Got too used to 600 miles plus between stops with my 140ps 5 seater Touran!). Was disappointed that we can't specify the 61litre fuel tank in the UK as an extra (You get it as standard on the 20i). Regarding wheels and tyres, I found the ride on 18" with Pirelli P7 non-runflats very good apart from with some potholes (Far too prevalent on our country roads) when the resulting noise and lurch prompted passengers to think that the car had broken! Road noise was fine on some surfaces, but appalling on others. I'm now trying some 560 wheels (17") with Michelin Cross Climate tyres. They are definitely more comfortable & quieter, and just as much dry grip, although a bit less steering feel. They are lower rolling resistance, so should help a bit with fuel consumption. The reviews I've seen seem to support Michelin's claims about these matching summer tyres in the warm and dry, so they might stay on all year, otherwise I've got the winter tyres we need Up North. |

OK. let me show off then, my SDrive 18d SE fuel consumption is 45.1 over 750 miles mainly in town/ school run with few times on Sport mode (just to fun).
This is first time I'm driving diesel car and I'm loving it, the engine is so punchy and I barely noticed a deference against the 20d during test drive (my opinion only). The only thing which I regret is not going for the LED headlights, I had to save for the Automatic Sport, panoramic roof and leather seating plus few bits and pieces to make the SE looks better from the inside. In general the car is great fun to drive no issues whatsoever. |

We managed 47.9mpg over 2700 miles in the loan 18d S drive we had. Currently getting 55mpg out of the 116d we now have.
I will be very interested to see what our 20d x drive actually gets. Mrs W used to average around 41mpg in her 2.0i petrol MINI.

I have just joined the Forum and have a very similar spec to tobycoombes on order. I found lots of useful info in the Forum and so thought I should share my experience - especially regarding lead time - as soon as I get an update from my dealer.
This is my first post (on any forum) so once I get full access I will share my spec etc. |

By the way, there seem to be at least four of us with the 2.0i - a rare breed in this diesel-oriented world. You and I had a long wait for delivery but it was certainly worth it. A lovely car which is a real pleasure to drive. |

I was quoted 10-12 weeks today, salesman just emailed to to say it would be mid June at the earliest... I now have to make a call on whether I order or hold back until September

I hear you on that, I queried this today. Seeing as this is most likely going to be bought by young families I would have thought that rear heated seats would be available

Anyway, Dealer rang and it seems to have freed up some info - although no improvement. Seems that BMW have NOT been able to improve availability of 20i engines after all (I am not sure if it is all petrol engines or just 20i). My order should be built week 23 and dealer says they should have it ready for me week 26 - last week of June. Dealer also has said that all new orders for 20i are being quoted Q3. Although not great news at least I now have a date in mind whereas before it was a bit too vague for me. |
