I have also been asked which display (part number) they should buy and what obd2 dongle I use with Bimmercode. So I list the details in case anyone else needs it.

The coding change needed to upgrade 6.5” display to 8.8” for f48 with ENTRYNAV2 HU (please note Bimmercode will show HU as NBT)

Using Bimmercode in expert mode HU NBT 3005 display_pip_config section
Change CID_Display_res from 800x480 to 1280x480
Change CID_Display_ size from 6.5 to 8.8
Now go out and enter 3001 section and find
Display_Variante and change from schmal (German for narrow) to breites (wide)
Now go into Nav section
Find Display_Resolution and change from 800x480 to 1280x480
In brief 4 coding changes in 3 separate section of NBT HU ecu
All changes require expert mode.
Screen works after first two code changes, nav will work also but you need to change res in nav section to get full screen.

Which 8.8” touch display - for most F48 there are only two compatible BMW oem displays. The part numbers are 6550 879 7400 , sellers will often just give part as 8797400. This is latest model. For F48 with build date up to mar 2018 (used jul 2017 - mar 2018 ) the previous version, part number 6550 684 4128 ( or 6844128) may be fitted. Please note F48 built March 2018 to date (May 2019) must use the latest part (8797400) in order to be factory build correct. One other points on screens, the new facelift F48 will come with either 8.8” or 10.25” touch screens so if you haven’t upgraded yet then it may pay to wait as the 8.8” screen will drop in price and the new 10.25” will appear on the secondhand market within a couple of months. Coding for 10.25” screen is already possible as option for 10.25” size and resolution options are listed.

With regard to what dongle to use with Bimmercode app. I recommend Bluetooth rather than wireless and personally use the Vgate pro 4.0 Bluetooth obd2 reader/scanner. You can buy through Amazon, eBay, Bimmercode website and other coding shops.

Finally, although not asked, if you have a choice I would recommend the iOS version of the app rather than the android. The app was originally developed for iOS and the iOS version allows multiple back-ups to be created and saved rather than just one for the android version.

Hello, my F48 is manufactured on 03/12/2018, it is equipped with enavevo and S6UNA navigation, I want to put the screen 6844128, but it is not clear to me if I can move it or I have to mount the screen 8797400.
Thank you very much and greetings

Hi
With December 2018 build date you cannot retrofit 6844128. Part 8797400 can be retrofitted.

Thank you very much for your answer, but we have not understood the date, the translator changed it for me. The manufacturing day is the 15th of the month of March of the year 2018.
Thanks and regards

You need a dedicated USB C to Ethernet adapter, not all adapters work with the iPad.

I have the Pro too and I am using the TP-Link UE300C to connect to the car. I think you can find it on amazon.

All you need to hook the car to an iPad are the first two items in the “frequently bought together” section of this thread ……

When I use it, I leave the car running, make sure the iPad is fully charged up, and turn off the Wi-Fi on the pad in the settings…

I saw your advice after purchasing a Bluetooth ODB2 dongle, but sent it back and bought a cheap E-Net cable off eBay. Works flawlessly using a USB-C to ethernet adapter and my Samsung S21. You just have to put it in Airplane mode to kill the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as you say, then set the phone to Ethernet mode in the hotspot section. Done several codings on my F48 and a Mini without any problems at all. I don't see any need to buy a Bimmercide recommended E-Net cable as they are all the same. I just chose one which seamed to have a better connector and higher quality cable.

I found a pack with a lot of tools for BMW from this site https://vrrtuning.com, with a video explaining hoe to install the softwares.

But I have another question. Which SP-Daten should I use with my X1 F48?

Thanks in advance

get ISTA+ for diagnostic & programming (replacing parts)

For coding - get esys.

Please help, I just got my X1 on Sunday. I have had no issues. But I got a bimmercode and was making some of the suggested changes from YouTube nothing crazy and nothing in expert mode everything was going fine except one of the codes I got a notification that the software requires update certified dealer. I was not able to change the settings back and delete the issue it stays on there when I went to the website to see if I had the current software the BMW website says I do does anybody know how to turn off this code or delete it?

Without more details on what exactly you were coding and how, it is difficult to advise. Given the car is new to you, I would be slightly suspicious that the instrument cluster could have been “chipped” or replaced and your coding attempt inadvertently triggered security/tamper issues. If you have restored Bimmercode setting from back-up,you could just play dumb and see what they say. Normally coding outside of expert mode is relatively safe but issues do occur.

Good news, I got it fixed this morning. I hit the restore like 17 times and then deleted all the errors in Bimmerlink like. 8 times the update required and service required have now vanished. Thanks for reaching out to me. BTW the item I was changing was to add MPH to the instrument cluster.

Need BimmerCode Help on Monitor Upgrade

I’m new to the forum and enjoy and appreciate everyone’s suggestions and expertise! As a result I went out and purchased an OEM 8.8 used monitor, OBDlinkCX and purchased the BimmerCode app and have already made several changes thanks to your posts!
I’m preparing to attempt the upgrade and went into the expert mode and found 3000 HMI and 3001 EXBOX but then there are pages of possible selections and I don’t know which one to choose to change the monitor size from 6.5 to 8.8 and schmal to breites as recommended …..any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A quick search through the forum would have given you a number of threads and posts with the info.

Coding change needed to upgrade 6.5” display to 8.8” for f48
Using Bimmercode in expert mode HU NBT 3005 display_pip_config section
Change CID_Display_res from 800x480 to 1280x480
Change CID_Display_ size from 6.5 to 8.8
Now go out and enter 3001 section and find
Display_Variante and change from schmal (German for narrow) to breites (wide)
Now go into Nav section
Find Display_Resolution and change from 800x480 to 1280x480
In brief 4 coding changes in 3 separate section of HU ecu
All changes require expert mode.
Screen works after first two code changes, nav will work also but you need to change res in nav section to get full screen effect in map view and finally section 3005 change is needed otherwise idrive home screen will only show two menu icons (like in 6.5 display) rather than 3.

Please note, above is for cars with Entrynav 2 HU (in nav map version will have ‘way” in the description, if the map says “route” then you have earlier Entrynav 1 HU and coding may not alWays work using Bimmercode (Esys reqd).
