Cheaper. Plus, I had a bit of USD so didn't have to convert.

Still sorting warranty repercussions but there's this kit that can be used to make fuse box connections a bit clean:

Isn't the fuse box access through the glove compartment? In the meantime, if we decide to push through with it, might try to find a way to have a clean, lighter connection first (as to how, don't know yet).

Think it is through the glovebox but not sure which fuse would need to tap into. Haven't seen those fuse kits before, might be good to get something like that. On my current car I just wired in a female 12V socket and plugged the dashcam 12V plug into that socket. Bulky but works.

Some cameras just require aux power supply. If so, you should be able to power it by wiring it into the power socket located in the cargo area. Just use an in-line 1amp fuse just in case the camera fails or short-circuits. You can then run the control wires back to the control module and screen interface in the dash.

Thanks for great info. Will definitely fit myself since quote for labour to fit from BMW dealer was £192 plus of course the £114 for the flaps! Hopefully will get fitting instructions with flaps. But between your info and instructions for previous X1 [see below] should be OK.

My car also has the aluminium trim in the boot edge. A nice touch feels upmarket IMO. When I first read this thread I thought my car would not have it as some others, but it turned out as standard!

Has anyone seen the aluminium boot edge protector anywhere? I've seen it in photos for the press and in the launch vehicles, but haven't found it in any accessories list.

It has chrome exhausts on it, this is the only chrome on the car... and it needs to go!!!

Anyone come across black exhaust covers for the F48?

I really only need something to cover the carpet when going to the local tip or picking up stuff from the garden centre so whilst the BMW original is very likely to be better quality it costs nearly £80.

I might end up regretting it but thought it had to be worth a try. I'll post an update and picture when it arrives.
Will be interested in seeing the fit of it when you receive this. And to know what the quality is.

This arrived very quickly but I forgot to post some pictures.
It is quite a deep tray as hopefully you can see from the last picture. Not a particularly heavy grade rubber / plastic but it's absolutely fine for the purpose. Also it's light enough to lift in and out if you don't want to leave in situ all the time.
It came rolled up in a box but returned to it's shape quickly when taken out. It doesn't give off any nasty rubber /plastic smells either.
It fits really well and contours round the shape of the floor. You have to lift things over the rear lip which sticks up a bit but at least it would contain any spills within the tray area. The inset carpet is a bit thin but it's all you need to cover the base. Probably would have gone for the black rather than grotty grey colour but I suppose it makes the boot brighter. For any really muddy items I would remove it anyway.
Overall very pleased and glad I didn't get the BMW one.

Steve thanks for the info and pictures, would it be easy to trim the edge down a little to reduce the lip?

Hi Andy - you possibly could but if you trimmed just the rear then the sides might flop about a bit. Not sure if it would work or not??

Many thanks for that Steve - I see that your liner is produced by Rezaw-Plast, had one produced from them for my Audi. X1 liner by them also available here www.carmats4u.com for £25. Will wait and see who else is going to produce and if it's a better fit at boot edge.

Mud Flaps Fitting Details

Find attached details of mud flaps and fitting instructions. Bought the flaps from my dealer [£114] and rather than pay the £150 for fitting will attempt myself. Does not look too difficult!?

No issues concerning fitting. Didn't even have to take the wheels off although might have made it slightly easier.
Front flaps required 2 holes to be drilled into the inner plastic wheel arch cover to fit 2 self tapping bolts.
Rear flaps required just one hole being pushed through the inner wheel arch fabric cover just to start the self taper screw.
Each rear flap has two parts but it is easy to figure out where the small inner cover fits (to stop too much dirt filling the mud flap).

Apart from above, all the new fittings used existing holes but no instructions are supplied.

Although not for the X1, I found the attached PDF file helpful for some hints about fitting.
Any chance of some pictures to show what sort of protection they are giving . ie. picture of the vehicle in a dirty condition showing spray pattern up side.

My car is never dirty.........what are you insinuating?

I'm driving to Heathrow and back on Monday and Weymouth and back mid week so no doubt that should do it. I'll post some pictures when I return.

Not insinuating anything Steve, that would be good, have managed to get a set of flaps for free from my very nice sales lady, got none BMW flaps fitted at the moment at a cost of £22 that are doing a reasonable job, want to decide if it worth fitting the BMW ones when they arrive, or if to offer them for sale here.

Andy - I attach some pictures. It's been about 3 weeks and 500 mile since I cleaned it last (Today is the day!) Although it's a bit grubby, it doesn't really show any spray patterns from the wheels. That could be either the mud flaps or that the car has been A-Glazed. The rain we had Monday also probably washed some off. Not very conclusive I'm afraid.

Thanks!

...and what are those wheels like to clean? My order includes them, mainly because I thought they were the best of an uninspiring collection.

ttimbo....they are an absolute nightmare!
It takes me longer to clean the 4 wheels than it does to clean the rest of the car. I even had the 'MetalMate' Alloy Wheel protection put on but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
I wish now I would have stayed with the standard 569's but I don't particularly like the way they look either. I am going to look out for something else, maybe with winter tyres and then just use the 566's in the summer.
