Have the front and rear camera. When I put the sd card in my laptop I can play back some file footage but other files produce this message,
Any ideas please.

If I sit in the car with my Ipad I can view recordings for front and rear cameras through the downloaded app. The laptop plays the videos through windows not the Ace app but only the sound and not the picture. Like I said weird. Just to update, Changed to Windows Media player and can now view videos. Would still like to know why I cant view them in the Bmw Ace Advanced app.

Do the video files have ".avi" extension? If so, then the Windows app should see them.
There is good info in this thread: https://www.avforums.com/threads/ret...r-eye.2184987/ VLC is the best video player on Windows and plays nearly everything: https://www.videolan.org/ |

Here is a video that shows the Windows app working after selecting a file in the SD card EVENT folder:
In the avforums thread, @steveluip suggested how to view the rear camera: One thing you could try in VLC is to see if there's more than one stream. So whilst it's playing, click Video > Video Track and see if there's more than one track. |

So, don't you drive on the correct side of the road in your location. Of course not. And all because you dumped a load of English tea into Boston Harbour (note the spelling of Harbor!) in 1773!
I jest and would love to visit New England - possibly 2020 if I can persuade my better half that she'd love to cruise into Boston on board QM2 (tea or no tea)!! |

Just as well you drive on the right side seeing as your steering wheels are on the other side too.

And I’ve driven Beagler’s route along the A65 road (on the left side), through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, many times. Having said that, our own area of the UK, very close to the Peak District is absolutely wonderful. And some narrow, winding lanes to drive the X1 along and enjoy the handling.
Just see this, where my wife and I were walking a couple of days ago along the pathway in the first pic - no, not us in the photo. (c12 miles from our home): https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ila...n-at-ilam-park Last edited by oakey46; 10-25-2019 at 02:45 PM.. |

Went up to Ribble Head and Hawes via settle and Stainsforth then back through Ingleton. (Stunning scenery). Next summer We we will do it on our Bmw R1200 RT. Something to look forward to after the Long Winter Months.

I emailed BMW Uk to ask why the cameras files wont load into the Advanced Viewer on my laptop. I got a reply saying someone will ring me from the dealer to book my car in. They obviously havnt a clue. The advanced Viewer is for Windows 8 and therefore there may be a Windows 10 compatability issue. I have troubleshooted it in Windows but it hasn't resolved the issue. I also made sure the camera files are labeled open with Bmw Advanced Viewer.

Maybe BMW UK does not understand that the problem is not in your car, but with the ACE app in your Windows laptop? Since your videos work with the iPad ACE app and with the Windows VLC app, I doubt the problem is with the videos themselves. I guess you should bring both your iPad and your laptop to the service call.
If you can send me some of the video files, then I try opening them after installing ACE on my Windows 10 PC. By the way, I do not have the ACE camera installed in my X1, but was looking in it at one point (could not justify the high price). My interest in this is because I am an I.T. geek. |

Hi Beagler,
I installed ACE app on my Windows 10 PC and tried opening the .avi file you sent me, but got the "No file for play back available" message as you did. The app says it is Version 1.0.2, so my suspicion is it may be for the older ACE 1.0 camera, assuming you have the newer ACE 2.0 camera. I see that the main viewer program file dates back to April 18, 2016, so the whole software package, including the firmware update, may be for the ACE 1.0 camera. The .avi file itself has 2 video streams (front camera, rear camera) and 1 audio stream embedded in it. I am able to use ffmpeg to split out the file into 2 separate files for front/back and play them separately using VLC, Windows Media Player and Windows Films & TV. It looks like the best option for viewing the original file is to use VLC where front and back are displayed in 2 windows simultaneously, with date/time, speed and GPS coordinates visible at least. You can actually display only 1 stream in VLC by first disabling both video tracks and then selecting 1 of the 2 tracks. Overall, it is a bit disappointing of BMW, given how expensive the ACE camera is, but some companies now only develop iOS and Android mobile apps and not for Windows. There is a Windows Dashcam Viewer app that may work, but you have to pay for it. |

Was in dealership today sorting steering out and mentioned the camera software from BMW that didnt work. They got onto Ace and were sent this link. It now works and I am impressed with the quality of the recordings and now the viewer.
Try this link. http://www.advancedcareye.com/ACE2.0/
