Steering

Had mine for a month and find the steering strange. Sometimes Steering wheel moves in my hand similar to a motorbike white-lining when the tyres are worn. I paid extra for the sport steering and tyres are at 40psi fronts.
Anyone else ?

No steering issues in 24k miles of driving. Not sure what white-lining a motorcycle feels like. Your tire PSI seems high though. The recommended PSI is 32 on all 4 corners, but check the placard on the driver side door jamb for the appropriate tire pressure.

If 40 is high, my recommendation is to let some air out and see how it handles afterwards.

Tyres are 19in 225/45.

Will drop to 35 and see.

White lining on a motorcycle is when it runs over the centre white line and the bike moves slightly left or right of it involuntary.

Don't assume any car actually has the correct steering alignment specs from factory. In my experience, these can be out quite a bit. Get dealer to check.

Just taken mine in for BMW to check - the steering wheel is "out of centre" - and not horizontal when in the straight forward position - just slightly out, down on the right.
18" wheels - I do find the ride a little bumpy with quite a lot of tyre noise, compared with say my 335D.

I'll play around with the tyre pressures - the temperature has just dropped in the UK - and the mornings are now much colder - it is recommended that tyres pressures are checked when tyres are "cold" - but "winter cold" is different from "summer cold" and all 4 tyres are now about 3psi down from when I last checked them a month ago.

Hm, I've owned a E90 3 series, and the X1 definitely rides smoother. Maybe you have the sport suspension?

Thanks

The X1 is an M Sport Diesel, does that mean it has sport suspension? - I'll try to check the spec - I bought the car from BMW when it was 9 months old

They sorted out my off centre steering wheel today with a wheel alignment, (which is what I would have done anyway, but FOC as obviously still under warranty), car has been driven 4,700 miles

I never asked - but I would have thought that they only did the front

Finally decided to book car in at the dealer for the perceived steering problem.
I have to say they were very good and were determined to resolve the issue. Went out with a Tech but he didn't feel anything abnormal but only went 5mls. He did a health check on suspension and steering. He then put it on the diagnostic system but no faults. He then did a full wheel alignment check which did show misalignment. All in all they had it for 3 and a half hours.

It didnt cost me anything as they are claiming under warranty. Its early days but it does feel better and at least I know the car is fine.

Didnt get a hardcopy report just a verbal. Probably because it was done under warranty.

I think he said the KP span was out.
