Ugly seam on rear doors
Had my kids in and out of the rear this weekend and I got some extra time to stare at the inside of the door lip. Both of the rear doors really have a very "unfinished" look to the sheet metal on the bottom most portion of the door facing towards you. The two front seams look more "completed" vs the rear door just looks like they ran out of metal to fold it into a nice point. I tried to snap a picture with my phone but it's unfocused, I'll try to take another picture tomorrow and post it in here. Anyone else notice it, or care to look at their doors? Really nothing to do about it but worry about cleaning it this winter, I'm sure a lot of gross salt will get stuck in there.

Yikes the trunk seam? I didn't see anything that caught my eye as bad. Here's a sort of focused picture of my rear door sill.
Hmm I just tried on my phone, and then hopped on my computer, it says upload failed. No idea why, the file size is small. I'll see if I can put one up later. |

Might be one of those things you shouldn't look for too closely
I remember a review on the X2 pointed out that the finishing on the wiper and indicator stalks wasn't as good as it should be. And of course now I notice it on mine...but I live with it. The door fitting on my car was pretty bad, so got that fixed somewhat by the dealer.

Haha well I think of it as... I love the car, nothing I can really do about it (short of returning it which I think would be a far stretch to do anyways). Now I just tell myself that I will have to open those doors and clean that seam out more so that all this nasty salt from the winter doesn't accumulate there.

Then there's the question of why they used LED bulbs for the front indicators but only normal bulbs for rear indicators Esp when there's the nice red LED strip that runs through the rear lens anyway.
Or the hard plastic on the lower door trims/pockets. Don't get me started on the camera-based active cruise... Just my irks cheers

It is interesting for sure. I have to say, however, that the rear bulbs do not affect the look of the tail lights. The nice red LED strip is great for the looks/daytime lights, but in the night the glow of the brake lights is bright and even. I would actually worry that if the bulbs were replaced with LED bulbs, it may actually produce "hot spots" of patterns and then throw off the smoothness.
The hard plastic on the lower door trims, I think that's standard. Even on my E60 535 the bottom most pockets where plastic. However just a little higher is the "pleather". I never got the active cruise option, but because it is camera based I have hopes of activating it in the future. The breaking point from me buying the car on the lot vs building my own was because of the fact that I could not order the active cruise WITH the heated steering wheel, it was either or... and I absolutely love a warm steering wheel! |

Did the dealer give you a reason why you can't order Heated wheel with Active CC?
They have these strange rules... like not being able to order the 20 inch alloys with adaptive suspension. They couldn't give me a reason for that either...not even the 'genius'

These are usually because of incompatible equipment. The 20" wheels might call for different strut cartridges which aren't available with adaptive shock valving. The M steering wheel might have (or not have) some function that conflicts with Active CC - maybe some extra button is present for that? Dunno.
