Kind of expensive for what you get, no? And with a FWD platform is there anything "BMW" about it that justifies a higher price compared to the competition? I don't see a competitive advantage on this one.

Why not get a Q3 or a GLC/K...

There is nothing out there crossover wise that drives like the current X1. Whoever claims different hasn't driven the lot I bet.

What bugs me truly is that the old one is significantly faster than the new one, and most likely handles better.

But this is better value for sure, mine was $42k and has far fewer goodies. I guess we'll see what the lease rates will be next year. If not I'll lease second hand a nice E84 M sport with the N55 engine, that's a proper little rocket.

Beautiful Crossover! Its design is the most beautiful, even very top of X3, X4, X5 and X6. You definitely have to buy a X1, sporty and elegant.
I desire and want a X1.

But where is the M-Sport package X1? Where are the color option Estoril Blue or Silver Platinum?

Looking FWD for the FWD to get this for the parents as the next BMW present

Also -- does anyone know if we'll have this in sDrive diesel format? I'd be interested in that.

Totally agree. I hate their 2016 colour range. Ordered mine in Platinum Silver, which looks like is not available in the US.

Not sure, but it looks like the new X1 gear shift lever works more like a conventional automatic, with detents for each gear.
I don't know, pal. I think the 8ZF is the perfect electronic switcher, I like it a lot more than the switcher on the Dual clutches in M. The R on the top and the D on the bottom is what I've seen on any other Automatic transmission I drove, and I like the manual switching aspect, push to downshift, pull to upshift. People might think its wrong, but thats how a real manual works. Lower gears on the top, higher gears on the bottom (1,3,5 on top and 2,4,6 on the bottom)

Switcher? Good Lord.

Try transmission to start!

You got an F48 as a loaner in June?

Haha of course the M DCT is king, and I didn't use switcher as a word for transmission, I used it as a lack-of-a-better-term for gear selector. The physical stick. No doubt the M DCT is ahead of the 8ZF, transmission wise, but I like the gear selector (switcher) more on the ZF.

the last generation X1 drove better than the F3X 3-series.....this generation will likely drive worse than a Toyota Rav4.....the details here are all cost cutter and cheap-ish. Also gone is the fantastic E8X hydraulic steering.

Which configurator are you using? Maybe you haven't priced an X3 lately, but a "loaded" X3, is well over $45k.

X3 xDrive28i $51,445
Code: cv45hfpu
xLine
Metallic
Leather/Wood Trim
Cold Weather
Lighting
Premium
Technology

X1 xDrive28i $44,245
Code: cv4lop3c
Metallic
Leather/Wood Trim
Cold Weather
(Xenons included)
Luxury
Premium
Technology

That's a $7,200 difference. The X3 is a little bigger, and a little nicer. It's up one model in the line-up, so that makes sense. We're at the end of our lease and examining pricing on the entire line-up, and the X1's pricing is strong when you start dipping in to the options. Yes, there are some items that simply aren't available (heated steering wheel), but there's also quite a bit of savings on the table.

That's exactly why I got the E84: the perfect marriage of the old style chassis / hydraulic steering with the new drivetrain technology. But it does suffer a bit from stiff bushings with the stupid run flats.

I am more than willing to give the new one the benefit of the doubt, I'll go drive one as soon as practical. It even comes with a space saver reserve, that is proof BMW is listening to our complaints.

a no line x3 in alpine white, ZPP and ZCW is 45745 (which is all most people want). tack on navigation as a standalone option for 1950 if you wanted and its 47695.

Not just all wheel driver... Full time with torque split... and able to put 100% of power to the rear wheels also ..

xdrive standard isn't a competitive advantage? I though jz.list was pretty good set of differentiators... at least from the old x1.. which sure seemed to take it's fair share of the market... the F48 is clearly more vehicle standard than what owners got with a base E84....

love how folks say a RAV4 will drive better! so far every review I've seen(though there are very few) love the way it drives. you think BMW was just going to mail it in when everyone is watching this switch to fwd?? does a Mini drive like a Corolla? no it doesn't. so why would this drive like a rav4....or crv or sante fe or any other wallowing crossover. it will probably drive similar to a q3 or tiguan but better.

Yup. And this is one of the hottest segments, globally. And key to BMWs growth, so they can get new converts to the brand. They know they have to hit a home run here, and from a design standpoint, I think most objective people would say they're off to a great start. I'm sure it will be better to drive than any comparable vehicle.

Not saying it's not a nice car. Heck, I might get one for the wife if I like it. But is it better than the Q3? It starts at the same price for a Quattro model. Q3 looks pretty hot too imo....

You didn't say an X3 most would want or order or get . You said "A FULLY LOADED" fully loaded = all options or at least there about. And I went easy by just adding cold prem and navi (tech) oh yeah and rubber mats to make an even 50 k
