My 2017 1.8d sDrive auto was recalled in July this year for EGR software update, now I have a second recall to replace the EGR valve cooler. The local dealer explained the replacement cooler won’t be available until early 2024 🥴 but when fitted will be warrantied for 15 years😮.

Hi guys I’ve had a recall letter to do with EGR valve/cooler/software but it said don’t call us they’ll contact me when parts are available in the uk but like a previous post I’ve lost count of the number of recalls/repairs I’ve had for this issue. It’s unfortunate because other than the sun blind issue car is great, love it. 2016 20d just short of 50k.

My car was within the spec, I was told, so the immediate replacement of the EGR and cooler was not needed. I was advised that in the coming 12 months or so, when the parts are readily available, I will be sent another letter to advise that the part will be replaced. Apparently the new cooler that will be fitted, has the actual EGR and cooler as the same part, which means that the car will get a new EGR valve at the same time as the cooler - which I liked the sound of. In the meantime, I can take the car back at any point if I am concerned and they will carry out the check again. It was good service by my local dealership and I have been impressed so far - even though this was my second recall in the past year! |

My 2016 has been performing terribly in recent weeks. Very little acceleration when putting the foot down. Revs go up to 3k but very slow picking up any speed making driving unsafe especially moving out of junctions and attempting overtaking. I went to local BMW garage and they wanted £180 to investigate. I already had a mechanic friend interrogate and the recurring faults coming up are to do with the swirl flaps which usually caused by carbon build up of said flaps in the intake manifold. He showed me FOUR manifolds choked up with carbon that he had changed out in BMW’s. The garage said they wanted my car in for recall / check of the EGR cooler anyway and it has been in today. I called a few minutes ago and find that they have changed the cooler as it is obviously defective. Quick internet search shows a defective cooler can result in the exhaust gas going back into the engine via the intake manifold and carbon builds up therein. The car is now delivered back to me and the driver said that even after the cooler changeout the car is still performing crap. 'limp mode' he said which means not going over 3k revs. I'm pissed off and going into the garage to have it out with them tomorrow.
