This was interesting news but I cannot help feeling the 25e phev will have little appeal except to company car drivers where the tax can be significantly lower (in the U.K. approx 1/3rd of petrol/diesel equivalent). The reason being the relentless legislative push to full EV and in many countries the ban of petrol/diesel cars from 2030-2035. These changes are now only 9-14 years away so in the short time remaining the main issue is how much appeal will any hybrid car have when there are now few if any tax incentives to non company owners?

If the answer is that for a few, a full EV does not match their driving habits/pattern (or finances) and they want to make a greener decision/statement but need the range flexibility of a hybrid, then this type of car now faces another challenge, from its own stablemate, namely 48v mild hybrid technology which for the 2022 X1/X2 may have the generation 2 system of a 20-30 hp electric motor on board. The generation 1 48v system now found in the majority of BMW models, currently has 12hp enhanced starter-generator which provides energy recapture and assistance stop/start and up to 11hp in acceleration. The gen 2 system with 30hp will allow even greater energy efficiency but like gen1 are incorporated as part of standard car spec In order to meet ever tighter emissions targets. Why pay significantly more for an X1/X2 PHEV with 95 hp electric motor when standard cars, now called MHEV, come with 30hp electric motors? Politicians have made their decision, they do not want or support hybrid cars and manufacturers will not get away with charging a premium for them.

2021 is significant year for EV, with numerous manufacturers bringing in new models such as VAG with its ID.3 and ID.4 and many new compact EV models from European manufacturers, this will encourage many who could not afford a Tesla and found the “leaf” incredibly boring, to make the jump, further reducing demand for hybrid phev type offerings. Imho the xDrive 25e is redundant before it even launches.

Is this the one you guys are referring to? Follow this link to AutoBild mag and then scroll down the page and watch the video I circled in yellow. Its in German but pay close attention to the interior dash shots. They says its bigger and longer than its predecessors and has a very similar dash and HVAC controls as the new X5/6/7's we get here in the states. They call it a 2022 but all the 2022's I've read about do not resemble this one so maybe it will be released in 2022 but as a 2023 model???

Who thinks what?

OMG, Do they really need to use the Serie 1 taillights and design? I don't like it =(.

Anyway, the design is in line with what we saw here: https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1824358&page=3

At least they are keeping the 'normal' kidneys in the front, hahaha.

PS: adding a direct link to the video: https://video.autobild.de/files/vide...f14dea06e2.mp4

Looking to trade in my X1 2.0 petrol for the 25e PHEV. Any views on how to two compare on daily performance. Based on a brief test drive, the 25e feels quick out of the blocks, but noisy due to the 6 speed gearbox.

I intend to drive in France in July (2022). I will change the unit setting on the idrive to kilometre. I don't think the speedo will change from mph, but I think the hud should display kph. Does anyone know if the max speed warning on the hud will display max kph?

What do you hope to gain by going to a PHEV? Why not go to a full EV?
