have acquired a trim tool set...spring has been ordered...then it will be waiting for a day that suits.
Contacted a couple of BMW specialists but they will only do it the BMW way which is new shifter.
Figure if I follow the guide/video and take my time, then its like a <£10 part vs £1000+ bill

I will be in Los Angeles, Miami and Orlando Florida in July 2023 if anyone needs this problem solved! To find me securevehicleagainstrolling with the obligatory dot com on the end.

Will also be in Belfast on 21st June 2023.

Anyone else - I’m UK based but tend to be called on from afar!

I don’t reply to DMs.

I wish there was somebody in the US who did this. BMW dealer wants $2300+ and BMW indy wants $2100. Both are replacing the entire shifter. Part is about $900, the rest is labor.

Had mine fixed by my favorite independant German car garage. I ordered the upgraded shifter from GetBMWparts for about $678 and garage charged $700 for labor(approx 3.5hrs). Much less than dealer and another indy. Hopefully the upgraded assy solved the original problem!

Definitely worth checking out this option if you haven’t already!
I have a 2017 X1 with the same issue, and I am in the Bay Area. Can you help me, nstern - I'm curious which BMW dealer you took it to, and how you got BMWNA to cover it under Goodwill. It does seem like this is a common problem with the F48 X1 from what I read online.

Whilst I'm UK based, I've done a fair bit of travelling around (including USA) resolving this issue for owners! Got a couple of interested owners in Dallas / Forth Worth area at the moment and would only take one or two more interested owners to make the visit worthwhile.

Search securevehicleagainstrolling and you should find me.

Hi as you have fixed many cars now, do you know if have to remove the whole center console or will this method work?
