Next up, the Active Tourer on the Nurburgring. Seriously, can we stop pretending that this car is in any way a performance vehicle that needs to be tested on the Nurburgring?

I can "hoon" the Xi much easier, and it will power on oversteer after which I can feel the front engaging to give traction, but the rear is always engaged (yes 100% of the time, the variable is only in how much the computer engages the clutch for the front shaft, it's not 100% variable like bmw claims in marketing)

In the cooper I can do a mini (heh) doughnut in the snow with heavy throttle, it never feels fwd but also never rwd since the front it always on. If it turned out to be as engaging as the mini to drive I hardly think that would be horrible.
Try turning traction control stability management fully off then you will truly feel the system at work.

The Ring is where all BMWs are born. The road services on That track equate to almost anything the car would ever expect in the real world and beyond.

What a bunch of marketing bs these vids are. As if bmw has any interest in building "ultimate driving machines" anymore that need "testing" in the ring. A 60:40 fwd with eps and a high center of gravity. Whats next? Taking it through Africa to hone its X 4wd capabilities?? Oh wait: its not even 4wd exclusive anyway so 90% of it will be fwd with 3cyl engines...BS

looks promising. cant wait to see the huge price it will fetch to get heated seats and comfort access.... i guarantee this thing spec'd out with leather, xenons and cold weather awd and navi will be 52k. allowing the x3 to move into x5 pricing and the x5 to move into 75k pricing just in time for the x7 to fetch 90k

Yes we do take the X1 as we do all X vehicles for testing to Namibia in South Africa. All BMW models test in the continent.
Besides with the right wheels it looks like a mini X5 which will be very appealing for the customer who can't find an X5 financially viable.

Although I'd prefer a 1 series hatchback, I'm looking forward to this when my 335 lease is up in a year and a half. Especially if they release an M performance version.

Scott26, any chance you can provide any updated super secret squirrel info on an M performance model? Approximate release date, ride height, engine, etc.?

I am happy that BMW still tests the X1 on the ring. Even if my car never sees the track, I like knowing it's designed with some kind of competency in mind. I just hope that the X1 will be comparable with the Q3 price and feature wise. Pano roof, leather, xenon lights, heated seats, keyless entry/go, AWD and more for around 30-35! If so I know multiple people including myself who would consider if it drives and feels like the last X1 for around that price with those features.

Nice, but I do NOT like that interior! One of BMW's premium features is the raised center console and armrest. I don't like the way they dropped it and when you look at that long gear stick....yuck.
It's the end of an era.

The interesting thing about this video is that they are testing and evaluating a UKL chassis under the current 1er body shell.

You can't on the mini, can only take it "half off". on the bmw if you do it freaks out with big doughnuts giving a 4wd error that clears after restart.

Production starts July/August, so a few months after, perhaps?
