China exclusive LWB X1 will have 11cm extra rear legroom, new metallic paint option

http://www.carscoops.com/2016/04/bmw...for-china.html
  • New wheelbase is 2,780mm (109.5 in) compared to the standard models' 2,670mm (105.1 in)
  • Official debut will be at Beijing Auto Show next week
  • Flamenco Red added to the colour range (code C06)

I'm not really sure what this China-exclusive LWB models are about. The Chinese aren't that tall, are they?!! Everybody seems to be doing it nowadays and it's not just big luxury cars any more.

Anyway... LWB X1 looks alright actually. I have not yet seen any news outlets confirming the 3rd row seats. There are rumours, but 11cm doesn't sound enough for a new row of seats. We'll find out soon...

The new metallic red looks fantastic. I'm sure it'll be popular worldwide.

Sorry, it looks awful, like any LWB variant.
The E84 had a bonnet too long, and that LWB has too long a body!

At least it'll never leave China :-)

From what I've read the reason the long wheel base 3 series is produced for the Chinese market is because some business people like to be chauffeured around and the extra rear seat room is desired.

I assume the same reasoning is for the X1.

I had rides in a LWB 7-Series from a hotel I stayed at in Taipai. From the airport, etc. It was awesome!!!!!!!

Part of the logic might be the physical width of 5/7 series cars. Having recently come back from from visiting family in India the traffic and congestion is horrendous. I'm sure China is similar, so having a vehicle that is spacious but compact is a great advantage in day to day driving conditions
