Brake pad life on M brakes?

Just got the notification saying front pad service in 1000 miles, (on I drive and the app). car has total of 15k miles so far, so 16k miles total front pad life? Seems kinda short. Yeah I’ve done some canyon runs here and there but car never tracked.
Is it based on actually pad wear or it’s a computer recommending time to go in for service?
At what mileage have you guys replace the front brake pads? Thanks!
Thanks!

On my X1 F48 I changed at 40000km which is cca 25000 miles and I was thinking that is to fast...I think it is actually wear when you have warning the dashboard.

I was told to expect to be doing brakes in the 4th year of ownership, which (in normal times) puts it over 40K miles. At this COVID-infested rate, I don't ever expect to be doing them.

I'd get them inspected.. I believe inspected vs warning are two different notifications. I'm at 10K give or take and just put on my winter tires, PLENTY of life left. Canyon runs, however, could certainly wear them down faster than you think.

The driving stability and traction control elements of these vehicles means there's a lot of brake pad wear that's not initiated by the driver's foot on the pedal. I think I recall reading the brakes are lightly applied to the disc every few seconds in wet weather to maximise wet weather braking performance.

I just changed pads and discs on my 2016 F48 X1 at 72,000km (42,000m), installing ceramic pads. Enjoying low dust, much cleaner wheels and OEM brake performance

Which ceramic pads did you go with for the M-brakes? Can't wait to swap and lose the brake dust next summer.

Currently driving a 2019 MINI JCW. I had to replace my front brakes very early on, think maybe 15 K miles? Dunno if it was just a "softer compound" or what the deal was but I thought is was very early as well. Regardless, just did the rear brakes this past week. They were around just south of 30 K miles. Replaced all pads with EBC Yellow Stuff. They'll be on it until we part ways.

Nice. I suspect the calipers are Ate in the first place.

Are the new pads less "snatchy" than the stock under light braking? To mei that's more annoying than the dusting.

Yes...much smoother. I noticed this straight away after picking up the car.

Thanks for all the input, might just take it in in a few weeks and see what they say. I know LA traffic is bad but 16k miles is just so fast😭😭
I assume they would want $600 for this?
Could local shop clear the notifications on the map and idrive or only at dealer? I feel like that’s how they get you!

You should be able to do it all with a combination of holding down the instrument cluster button when turning on the car... unless they changed something with this year/model, I have always been able to do change the reminders by doing this without a specific obdii tool.
