okay, boys and girls, there is this wheel - https://www.autorimshop.com/catalog/...BoCHSsQAvD_BwE but it's for the rear of the x3. the rest of the dimensions are compatible but the rear wheels have a width of 9.5" vs our fronts' 8". the front wheels for this particular x3 are 20x8 but they are out of stock everywhere. i'm not sure if they are out of stock because covid has slowed production or just because they aren't being made any longer.
anyhow, would a 20x9.5 wheel fit funky due to the width? the style is similar enough to the 20" oem wheel that comes on the x2 m35i that i could deal but not if it's going to be sticking out of the wheel well.

Just quickly looking at the wheel specs, it’s not going clear.

Okay, so the wheels are now starting to trickle back into the US from their point of origin, Germany and a set of four discounted by various online dealership storefronts costs about 3k. Worth it? How's the ride on the 20" wheels vs the 19" wheels? Can anyone chime in on that front?
My gut is telling me that I shouldn't spend on 3k on wheels when my wheels are fine, but the 20" wheels look soooo goodddd. Also, factoring in tires and I'll be well over 4k on top of whatever I owe on the car. Hmm... Talk me either in or out of this, haha. I need input from the BMW elders.

I'm sure you could get a nice set of replica FORGED wheels for the 3K price.. the factory BMW wheels are not forged for sure. Of course you can get plenty of other FORGED styles, but I know you want something that looks stock..

i wouldn't have a problem running a forged set IF it looked stock IF the stock 20" wheels weren't so well designed and integrated with the rest of the car. it's just that they are really cohesive and create a more complete look than the 19" oem wheels. not that the oem wheels are bad, but...

didn't we have a similar discussion about the extended warranty, basically the same argument, life is short, if you have all your other got to fund items covered, and this is something you want I am not going to try and talk you out of it. Just weigh that out against what other toys you could get for 4K and base the choice on that. I understand enjoying the car they way you want it. I put rims on both my Acuras so I could use the stock for winter tires, you probably don't snow tires in California
Enjoy life, stay safe and based on other threads at least on this board I am an elder in age not care experience |

Devil's advocate: the OEM wheels are rather heavy, and some lightweight forged will really perk up the acceleration and pavement holding responses!
19" all the way for me. Less metal means lighter and higher tire profile means less prone to damage. But I don't live in Temecula California |

Thanks, rounderman !
It'll happen I'm sure, I just want to hold off showing off my new wheels before I actually have them.

In the meantime to Oct 30...
If I lived in California, I would probably consider 20" wheels. They look great. However, where I live, it's a festival of potholes, I am pretty that I'll break one wheel and one tire per year with the 20". Also, I need a 2nd set of wheels for the winter tires (it's mandatory here between Dec to March). I was lucky to get OE wheels from an X1. |

so hanukkah came early this year, right before halloween in fact and i'm super stoked over it all!
special thanks to forum member kkc427 who was kind enough to reach out to me privately, offer me his old (read: brand spanking new!) wheels, tires and tpms at a very great price and was super helpful with tips and advice. below are some pictures of my beauty sitting in the garage after a long, hard day! also, pardon the messy garage and the uncut lawn in the background (the gardener comes tomorrow).

thanks!
i was fully expecting the tpms to go crazy when i started the car, but i just reset them, took the car for a drive as it told me to and the system recognized them. easy peasy. i know that many are into aftermarket wheels if they are to replace the wheels that came with the vehicle, but i really like the best of the best oem specced car, and bmw generally does a really great job with their wheel design, these being no exception.

It looks really nice!
With California roads, you definitely made a great choice here. It was kind from kkc427 to reach you out. I saw he has tires to sell, but I am too far. The shipping to Canada doesn't worth it. |
