**UPDATE**Is it totalled or not? I don't think so...but what do you guys think?
January 4th, 2008 UPDATE******************************************** ************************************************** *
Got a call from the body shop..they said that they had stripped off the nose of the car (they have been waiting for the battery cable to come in from BMW to get the car running) and found a small casting (bolt hole on the engine block for bracket mount) broken off the engine (which could be easily repaired) but they also found a crack in the actual engine block on the front and also noticed that the harmonic balancer (or dampener) which is supposed to have a pinky's width between it and the block was pushed back touching the engine block so that means that the crank was pushed back and there is probably also a crack in the back of the block. So basically it is going to be totalled just waiting for Allstate to come out on Tuesday and make it official. I'm just wondering and maybe someone on here can help...how does it work with my rims...I just put them on a month ago..and I do not have the stock ones..will they cut me a seperate check for them? I mean they didn't cost me a ton but they were still 1800 and I just got them and since I am going to get another 335i coupe I would like to have them back or at least the money so I can just buy another set. Also do I get any of my money back for other mods? Like Tints, carbon roundels, euro headlight switch, pedals etc. Or am I just assed out? ******************************************UPDATE** *********UPDATE********************UPDATE********* ****************** I received a call from the adjustor today from allstate. He was at the body shop today looking at the car and said that for now the car is not being deemed a total loss for now, however the adjustor told the body shop to dig into it further, and see if there is any engine damage. If there is any engine damage it will most likely be a total loss. So this week the body shop will try to get it running after removing the body parts etc. and if the engine internals are okay, it will be repaired however if the engine internals have ANY damage it's a goner. For now it is $11,863 however the adjustor told me that he is 99% sure that once they really get into the car that he will be back for more. The first number is only what they can see on the surface. ************************************************** ************************************************** ****************** A guy blew a stop sign and when he finally saw me coming he stopped in the middle of the intersection...I couldn't swerve to the other side of the street cuz there was a school bus stopped..so I swerved to the right hit the brakes and skidded on to the sidewalk into a tree. The guy came over to me said "sorry man I didn't see you" I said "well apparently you didn't see me or the stop sign" as I was on the line with BMW assist I got out of the car to put my coat on and look at the car and the guy took off while I had my back turned. Didn't get his plate as it was bent downwards and while I was chasing him on foot he saw me chasing and took off in his lesbian green saturn. Really sucks my car was supposed to go to the shop next week to install the Vorsteiner Decklid and OEM aero lip...looks like I might be getting a Rieger front bumper now.. Anyone know how much the Rieger bumper is compared to the stock bumper.?

Dude, I am so sorry about your accident and the other guy. If anything, be glad you're ok. Were there any other witnesses?
To answer your question, I don't think it's totaled. If it was a 5 or 6 series with the bonded aluminum front end, maybe, but not in this case. That's just my guess. |

i am pretty sure it wont be totaled... did you check your engine and see it there's any damage to the block itself ?? if there isnt any damage there, the insurance company most likely wont regard it as a total loss...
just be glad that youre ok... and it sucks that the guy just left like that ...

Sorry about your bad accident. Looks like a very expensive damage, I'd say at least $12k to get it back to normal Good luck!

Holy crap! Sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad that you're doing alright. From initial looks, I don't think the car will be totaled, and insurance will cover the damage, but I hope someone finds that @$$hole. Did you file an official police report? Sometimes, if you remember enough details, you can still nail the guy, although chances are rather slim without the plate numbers.
All in all, just glad you're safe.

That sucks. Feel your pain, been through that before.
That is way more than 12K in damage. My guess is just 15K in body work. Plus whatever engine compartment damage and airbag replacements. My guess is 25K? |

For your sake I hope it's totaled. If someone managed to fix the car it will never be the same. Regardless of how attached you may be to the car, the best thing is to get a new one if possible. Sorry to hear about the accident. I hope you don't run into any problems with your insurance co.

I don't get one part. You said when you had your back turned he took off and you started to chase him on foot, and when he realized you were chasing him he got in his car and sped away? Did he run in a circle and hop back in his car?

Pray it's totalled, because even if it's fixed, it will never be the same.

sorry bout you and your car. people drive like idiots around here especially around the holidays. my mom got into an accident with a truck on northern blvd/dunkin donuts the other day. if she wasn't in an suv she'd probably be under the truck. not sure if this helps but...very similarly damaged. complete front damaged (xenons, hood, etc.) but no engine damage other than to radiator. drive train and suspension completely fine. Lexus RX. surprisingly only $11k (for now). $22 for it to be totalled.
people love to run stop signs around here don't they. GF family got tboned on Bell a few years ago. BTW, The car will not be totalled. and don't worry it will drive fine after it's fixed. it seems to be mostly cosmetic damage. I hate when people think the car will never be the same. true in some cases. but cars aren't made to last forever anyway. |
